Into the Unknown [ |Wakami Police Exam| ]

[ \Sakura Hiroba | Kamiza | Yomi/ ]
The capital city of Raikou no Kuni, nestled between mountain peaks in the center of the country. Its altitude and location lead to common snowfall, though it is not necessarily cold throughout the year, clear days often leading to be as warm as summer. At the southern end of this star-shaped city lies a great stone bridge spanning a large lake, connecting to the road back down to the rest of the world. The home of both the Daimyo and Kamiza, the Onigami Compounds.

Scenario
Recently some new, or rather old, mining shafts have been rediscovered by a few less than fortunate hikers. Normally this wouldn't pose an issue with the Police Force however there seems to be some gangs making themselves at home within these old abandoned caverns and attacking passerby's. Seeing as we have not been able to pin down all of them at once we are sending in the new guys in waves to flush them out. You've been given the general area that we believe these small-timers to be hiding. Find them, flush them out, and deal with them accordingly. There is one more thing we should inform you of however, lately within that area there have been some travelers that have gone missing. We're not sure if they are related to the gangs or not but the locals that live in that area are talking of bizarre happenings near the shafts. Be on your guard and should you see anything strange return and report it if you cannot deal with it directly. It's our mission to guard the people of our village, do your best.

Today was unlike the rest; today was special, today wsa important.

Asleep within his small flat lay Nikaru Koga; a new resident within the walls of Kumogakure, raised atop the isolated snow capped mountains to the north, rested. Wrapped within his blankets like a cocoon his body twisted and twirked to the beating rain drops. Every passing second his body inching closer to the edge. With clouds looming overhead only the flashes of lightning illuminated the early morning sky. Following each bolt of lightning came the roaring thunder, breaking upon the mountain faces like ocean waves; shaking Koga right off his bed.

*THUMP*

"Awwww~"

Tangled within his blanket he struggled for a moment; breaking free from his cocoon. Eye's still sewn shut, only his torso began to break free as he twisted and turned. Arms soon followed and waist was next; it was a few moments before he worked up the energy and drive to claw the rest of his body out from his sheets.

Rising to his feet like the living dead he stumbled across the room, feet still tangled within the blanket. Flopping onto the bed he lifted himself up, crawling on all fours he made his way across the bed; sliding open the window beside his bed.

Ambushed like a movie star by paparazzi, he found himself under assault by the blinding flashes of lightning outside his window.

"Ahhhh~" he cried, rubbing his eye like a newborn as his pupils readjusted to the light. Slowly, the blurry images before him began to sharpen. The smell of rain filled his nostrils as he took a deep breath, filling his lungs his abdomen expanded before exhaling.

Why did it have to be raining...
Why...

Sliding his window shut he ran his fingers threw his scruffy hair. I need a shower... he thought to himself as he made his way to the edge of the bed. Eye's drifting across the room he looked at his Television, radio, and alarm clock. Looking at the folder beside his alarm clock a sense of disdain came over him. Today was the day of his mission. How could he forget... it would be his first mission since relocating into the inner sanctum of Kumogakure.

Picking himself up he headed for the bathroom. After a quick shower he would be ready to head out.

A gentle turn of the knob and the shower cam to a halt.
Stepping out of the shower Koga reached for the counter; searching for his towel. Drying off his face first, then his hair, he came to a pause in his routine. Even going as far to stop breathing. Ears perked like a dog, he listened to the rain as it beat down upon the rooftop.
Exhaling, he continued about his routine; drying off, brushing his teeth, and last but not least putting on clothes. Though his choice of clothing was... somewhat lacking. Consisting of a chain-linked necklace, a pair of fit slacks, and wooden geta (sandals). Even during the winter months did he rarely put on more than a single layer of clothing. In his mind, clothing was always optional.

Picking up the folder from his nightstand he flipped threw the pages, reading the report and location. Snapping ti shut he tossed it onto his bed; the ink inside disappearing and evaporating after a few seconds. Standard practice for missions such as this. Making his way to his dresser he picked up his newly acquired Kumogakure headband. Looking at it for a moment a small grin formed along the edge of his lips. He did it.

Strapping the headband not around his head, but around his thigh, he headed to the door. Looking back at his room as to take a picture before closing the door behind him.

Beating upon his bareback the rain drops cooled his body. With summer just over the horizon temperatures began to reach their peaks. Springtime showers such as these were unlike others. They were pleasant and peaceful unlike their counterparts which were dark and gloomy. Koga loved the rain showers, particularly ones such as this.

Making his way to the front gates he smiled. This would be the start of his new life. His life as a shinobi of Kumogakure. Filled with excitement and adrenaline he kicked off the ground, dashing threw the gates and into the forest.

His mission had officially begun.

Having made it out of the village Koga found himself traveling along the designated path. With the spring shower having passed and the sun's rays illuminating the land, Koga's pace had slowed. Enjoying the scenery, he traveled at a steady stroll. Taking note of the surrounding land, treeline, and general features of the lands. Though his file may have stated he was born within this country, truth be told he was not. In fact, he didn't even know or remember where he was born.
He wasn't supposed to.
He wasn't meant to.

Eye's closed, Koga listened to the sound of nature. And the clacking of his geta as he strolled down the path. Having been plastered to the same path like a train on a rail road, it wasn't long before he found himself somewhat bored...not a single soul had been in sight since his departure. Though this wasn't particularly strange when one considered the size of the country. It was however strange when one considered the conditions of the day. Though it may have started in a light thunderstorm, by noon the sun had already proved victorious, showering it's light upon the land. Koga was no expert on the matter... but something didn't sit right.

You could imagine how thrilled he was to finally come across a small caravan. Coming across each other, the caravan and he seemed to be moving in opposite directions. Waving one another down, they come to a halt as they crossed.

"Beautiful day isn't it?" Blurting out the first thing which came to mind.

"That it is." The husky gentlemen behind the reigns replied. "Where ya headed Kid?!"

"Not quite sure yet to be totally honest. The sun was out. Seemed like a waste to spend the day cooped up inside."

"Heh! That's the truth! Be sure to keep an open eye. Although we are people of the powerful Lightning country, danger lurks within these woods. Look at me, a local farmer, but even I have some extra hands on-board to make sure things go smoothly." As he spoke 3 men rose up from the bed of the caravan. "These men are what I like to call 'extra insurance'."

Looking at the men Koga took a second to size them up. None of them looked particularly powerful. They weren't shinobi atleast. Perhaps laborers or bounty hunters... but not shinobi. It wasn't only their physical appearance and features that gave it away, Koga's ability to sense their chakra also clued him in. Neither of them possessed impressive chakra, it was untrained and fairly low. But that would be enough to protect themselves.

"Well we have to get a move on. Be sure to stay safe. Bandits these days seem to be on arise. Not sure what that Raikage is doing, but something needs to be done. People don't feel safe anymore. It's bad for business." Shaking his head he let out a sigh. " Be sure to keep a look out and stay safe, kid!"

"Alright, I appreciate the heads up. How about you let me get one of them pomegranates?!" With a smile from ear to ear he reached into his pocket taking out some coin.

"You got it kid!" The man chuckled. Another man tossed Koga the fruit before catching the coin.

Moving on, Koga held the pomegranate in his hand as he continued down the path. Re-thinking the contents of the folder another time within his head. So the rumors of Bandits are true. People really are up and disappearing. But... that doesn't sound like just any bandits. There's something else going on here.

Taking to the tree tops Koga scouted over the area. In the distance stood the mountain range which was said to be the bandits base of operation.
He was close.

Perched atop the thick forest oak Koga watched and waited; biding his time. Although he would have preferred, no, enjoyed entering the bandits hideout in broad day light he knew such a decision would be unwise. After all, issue of the missing hikers was still unsolved. There was still much work to be done. The key to his success would be timing. Waiting for the opportunity to move in and infiltrate. Operating under the veil of night would no doubt be the easiest and safest way to get the job done.

Having honed in on what seemed to be a back entrance, Koga watched from a few hundred meters away.Like a hunter in it's tree stand, Koga waited lurked atop the canopy. With dusk upon him the orchestra of cicada drowned out any and all competition.Without fear of being heard he had begun to move in. Still, the threat of being scene was present. Moving from treetop to treetop he moved like a monkey; the canopy was his home.

Now a mere 50 meters from the entrance he was able to get a better view. Able to see what he was unable to before, he observed the two guards which stood at the ready. Neither of them seemed extremely skilled. Though he may have been underestimating them; just another one of his flaws.

Beating against the ground the sound of hooves resonated from the entrance. Leaning in, he waited, a single tear of sweat rolling down his face. it was only a matter of time before Koga found himself over extending, nearly falling out the tree as he watched the horse pulled cage exit the ominous mine shaft. Like a tiger clawing at it's cage at the zoo, a horde of arms and heart wrenching cries extended from the cage.

It was at that moment that Koga began to piece together the bandit's operation.
Knowing exactly what needed to be done, Koga spit a single pomegranate seed from his mouth before disappearing into the shadow.

Moving threw the forest like a bat out of hell, Koga, trailing the wagon of captured hikers made sure to stay within reasonable distance. Never to close nor to far. He needed to wait. The urge to swoop down and go superman on their asses was almost unbearable. They were still too close to their hideout. If anything should go wrong...
He didn't want to think of the consequences. Their were lives on the line.

Finally, it was time!

With approximately 5km between them, Koga didn't need to worry about back-up arriving. He was free to let loose.
Rocketing into the air his body loomed above the cage. Ignorant to his presence the two men went about their business. Descending from the sky Koga eye's sharpened, focusing like a hawk on it's prey, Both arms extended, he landed between the two horses. Arms wrapped around the necks of both the men as he ripped them from their saddles, slamming them to the ground. Reacting as they should, the horses came to a screeching halt, one even going so far as to rise onto it's hind legs. Of course Koga's methods weren't as subtle as one may have expected, being a shinobi and all; but they got the job done.

Alarmed by noises they heard a few of the prisoners reached between the metal bars of the cage, pulling back at the curtain. Peeking outside they looked around. A small child managing to squeeze his head threw the bars, catching a glimpse of Koga and the two subdued bandits whom lay at his sides. Pulling his head back threw the bars only to covers his mouth. Small tears began to build up along the rims of his eyes.

"Shh Shhh!" Koga pleaded with the distressed horse, attempting to move in closer and grab the reigns.
It was only after several minutes of swooing the horses that Koga got around to unlocking the cage and removing the drapes from it's sides.

Looking in, he counted off, taking notes of each of the captives. Nine in all... somehow that number seemed... off.
Unsure of their situation, the captives sat in silence. Not a single peep from any of them. Nothing but the sound of cicadas pierced the air.

"What now...". Scratching his head he turned away from the cage. Walking around it he made his way to the two bandits who had been knocked out. Picking the first one up he tossed him over his shoulder before making his way back to the back of the cage. "...uh."

Staring at the captives he questioned what was going through their heads. "You're free to go... you do know that?" Like light to cockroaches the once silent captives cried out in joy. A few of them even bursting into tears.

"Well come on, don't just stand there. I'm sure you have families to get back to. I on the other hand will be commandeering this vehicle. These guys.... i owe them a visit."

With the bandits intercepted and the captives set free, Koga was now faced with his original mission; infiltrating the bandits base. Or something along those lines.

Unhitching one of the horses Koga found himself with a devious plan. Having tossed the two bandits into the cage and setting the other free, he contemplated his next course of action. Stumped at first, he eventually came up with the idea of doing what he did best. With a quick scan over one of the bandit's he initiated the doppelganger effect. Like a caterpillar transforming into a butterfly, Koga's body began to change. Hair; lengthened and changed from black to long brown hair, Eyes; changed from a steel/slate blue to brown, Body; growing like a pregnant woman his gut began to bulge to the point where it was a perfect oval.

Taking his first steps in his new form Koga could feel his heart racing as it tried to pump his thick sludge like blood threw his clogged arteries. This man was old, fat, and unmistakeably out of shape.

No wonder it was so easy to take him out.

Pulling himself atop the horse he use the reigns as rope; eventually making it to the saddle. Gripping his chest he took several breathes. He wasn't sure how much longer he wanted to hold this form. Everything seemed... so much harder. And the horse... poor thing, carrying around this tub of lard all day, it was a miracle it hadn't collapsed yet.

With a snap of the reigns he was off. The clapping of hooves raced against his rising heart rate. The measly 5km felt like 20km in this body. Nevertheless, he persevered. Finally arriving at the back entrance, the entrance which the cage had left from, two guards still stood at their position.

"Halp! Dem guyz are freein da slaves!" Wheezing with every breath Koga's heart rate had reached it's peek. Hunching over the horse his body slowly made it's decent. Falling to the ground with a -thump-

Rushing to his aid the first guard quickly rolled Koga over. "Wei! Wei!"

"Who the hell is Wei?! He thought to himself. Blinking a few times he let out a convincing moan of pain. "Get dem...before Boss finds out." He mumbled.

Confused, the second guard rushed over. "What's going on?"

"Someone attacked the caravan."

"And the slaves?!"

"They are being freed. I'm guessing Wei escaped."

"Shit! We need to get them back. Come on!"

"B-but what about Wei!"

"He'll be fine. It'll be our asses if Boss finds out about this. You wont be able to worry about your friend if your dead. And believe you me, you'll be dead if this get's back to Boss." Rushing back to his post he grabbed ahold of a large bow and quiver. Tossing the quiver over his shoulder he reached for a torch. With nightfall nearly upon them, he knew how hard these woods were to navigate at night. Running off, he passed his partner and Wei: Koga. "Come on. Move your ass!"

"Alright I'm coming! Wei, stay here. We're going to handle this!"

"Wai! The north passage! To shak'em off our trail. Head north, ya should be able to catch dem still."

"Alright. You did good Wei, you did good. Don't worry. We going handle them." he said before placing Wei: Koga, back on the ground.

Laying there he waited. Only lifting his head to make sure the guards had took heed and headed north.
Which they did. Koga, far to pleased with the outcome, sprung back to life. Popping to his feet not as "Wei", but himself: Koga. Filling his lungs with a deep breath he slowly exhaled.
"PHEW! Sure is nice to breath again" He sniped.

Turning his attention to the unguarded entrance to the mine shaft a sly grin formed along the edge of his lips. It was about time he got serious and payed this "Boss" a visit.

Bursting into full sprint Koga began his infiltration into the heart of hsi enemy; the bandits. As he moved threw the cold mineshaft he paid close attention to the markings which decorated the wall. Each marking appearing aprox 10m between one another. With the only source of light being the dim flickering lights which ran overhead, any and all navigation methods would come into play.
Continuing down the path Koga made sure to hug the walls. Staying to the shadows would only prove to benefit him; buying him much needed time.
Having successfully fooled the two outside guards he had managed to sneak in. But there was no telling who or what awaited him.

Following the mine cart tracks he had successfully penetrated the inner most sanctum of his enemy's HQ.
But something was wrong.
Something was... off.

Up to this point he had managed to bypass nearly all opposition. Shouldn't there have been more guards? Shouldn't there have been some sort of security system?! Putting on the breaks he came to a sliding halt. Scanning over the area his eyes examined the walls. Palm pressed to the wall; cold, damp... trembling. Stepping away Koga immediately dropped to the ground. On all-fours his heard lowered until his ear rested upon the ground.

Tink! Tink! TInk! Tink!
"What's going on here? These mines have been closed off. Aw don't tell me..." Springing to his feet once again he continued onward, following the tracks deeper into the heart of his enemy.

Running full sprint he continued to hone onto the 'Tinking' sound like a guided missile. Starring into the dim lit mine shaft Koga questioned if the shaft turly had an end. It seemed qas if he had been running forever.

Sliding to a stop he paused. Glancing over his shoulder he lacked back towards the entrance which he came threw. Only the dim lights which lined the shaft provided visibility.
Facing forward he looked into the distance. There was no sign of an opening... what was going on.

Was there any chance he had been tricked?
No. His chakra circulationw as normal. He was sure of it. So that left only one question "How deep did this goe?!"

Filling his lungs he took a deep breath. Exhaling his lungs compressed.
"Dont stop. Keep going. Keep going..." his words were soft and quiet as to only reach his own ears.

Rolling his head around he took a moment as it cracked; twice.

"...here goes nothing."

Running deeper and deeper down the mine shaft Koga's eyes jumped from light to light as he passed them. With each and ever one he passed the air became a little worst. What was first only a noticeable taste of stale air had worsened. The air was thin. Often finding himself seemingly short of breath. Yet that wasn't even the worse of it. Not only had the quanity of breatheable air begun to dip, but the quality took a big hit. The smell of rotten eggs sitting in the summer sun had engulfed him. Nearly choking him out.

He wasn't going to be able to stand this for much longer. The stench... the air...
"God. How do they do It... i would be a surprise to find anyone who's willing to work or even live in these conditions." He complained, cupping his hand over his noes and mouth as he delved deeper into this seemingly never ending tunnel

Low and behold. Not even 5 minutes after his remark he spotted an opening in the distance. Almost immediately his stomach hit the floor. Just what was he going to come to see. Was he prepared for this?! Did he have what it would take to see this mission through...

What was he thinking... of course he could do this. He was made for this; quite literally "manufactured for this".

Back to the, he inched his way closer. The cold earthen walls sent chills down his spine. The tinking of pickaxes and nearly drowned out the sound of voices. But did nothing for the cries of pain which soon began to echoe down the dark tunnel.

Peeking his head out he glimpsed at the scene for a breif second. His eye lids were like the shutetr of a camer as he snapped and burned the picture into his mind before shutting his eyes a tucking his head back in like a turtle.

There were several guards. Each armed with swords, axes, maces, and spears of various fashions. They would be easy enough to deal with but... them; the prisoners. Shackled and bound like inmates on death row. They would prove to be difficult to manage. Especially under these circumstances. But he had to do it. He must!

Squating down he placed his hands atop his knees.
"C'mon C'mon C'mon." Grasping at his pants he ran a series of scenario's threw his mind.

"No. No. No. No. No. N-... Got it" Springing to his feet he pressed his back to the wall. His hand creeping down his leg and pulling out a Kunai from the pouch along his leg.

Taking a deep breathe he plotted out his course. He would begin by descending to the level below this one. Disable the guard nearest to him; the left one. Then the other. Throw the kunai into the minecart filled with explosives. Smoke and confusion spread. Begin removing shackles. Help prisoners up the scaffling and back to the top level. Escape via the back entrance.

It was a plan.
Perhaps not the best.
But it had certainly played out much better then his previous ideas; In his mind anyway...

This was it; his time to shine. To prove himself to everyone... to prove himself to the most important person of all; himself.

"Clack! Clack! Clack!"

Dashing out, Koga made his move. The clacking of his wooden sandals beat aganist the ground and echoed within the large cavern. Dropping down from above both hands classped together dropped onto the back of the startled and unsuspecting guard.

"One."

Standing over his body, he turned to his right. The shimmering of a blade caught hsi eye. The other guard hadn't been so easy to catch off guard it appeared. Hopping back he plucked the kunai from his mouth. With a quick spin he tossed the sizzling kunai into a chain of minecarts containing explosive.

"Two."

Facing the remaining guard he pounced forward. Bringing his left hand up he caught the bandits arm at the elbow; succesfully and skillfully preventing him from swining his blade. Following through, a powerful open palm strike rocketed upwards connecting with the mans chin driving all his momentum and force rattling threw the mans skull sending both him and Koga spinning threw the air a short distance. SHORYUKEN!!

"Three."

Landing on the ground on a single leg his head spun around looking for any other guards which may have been hiding or out of sight.
"Nothing..."

"Four."

Springingt into action he began to work on the shackles. Confused, startled, hurt, bleeding, worn out, and tired. The prisoners were unsure how to act. First fearing for their life. A seconds later pleading for rescue as soon as they cleared their minds and understood what was going on. "As soon as your free begin helping the others. There's no time to waste. Hurry!" Koga barked at the scrambling prisoners.

"Up. Head up the scaffling. To the back right corner. Use that acces tunnel to escape. Go Move fast."

With the explosions rattling the walls of the cavern it wouldn't be long before the smoke settled and the bandits began to retaliate.

"Five."

Still settling, a single silouhette remained as the smoke cleared."No time. Need to make this quick. I can't push it."
Peering threw the cloud of smoke Koga could see the dark the single silouhette had begun to spawn others. Growing from one to about ten in a matter of a few seconds. There was no telling how many were trully there. Koga didn't feel the need to know either. The only thing on his mind was making sure the prisoners escaped.

And he was going to make damn sure they did.

With a burst of speed he charged forward into the cloud using it as cover. The dark sihloutte soon sharpened as Koga got closer. Continuing his charge he didn't slow in the slightest. Lowernig his torso he swooped under the cleaving axe. Weaving his right hand betwen the grip on the axe he grabbed ahold of the plump man's face. Gripping and squeezing the fat on the mans face before sweeping his right leg behind the ma, usnig the full force of his body to drive the back of the mans head into the ground.

"Six..." he gasped as his lungs cried out for fresh air.

Moving with much less vigor he reached the large axe the man held jsut moments before. Grabbing ahold of it,Koga slowly rose to his feet. The head of the axe still rest upon the ground as it dragged behind him. - Tch. I can barely breathe. - Fingers coiling around the hilt of the axe he tightened his grip. bracing himself, he twisted his torso as he rpepared to launch the axe flying threw the air at the waistline.

Disappearing from sight, axe vanished. Not even a second passed since the axe left his hands hat gut wrenching screams peirced the air.

The axe had served it's purpose well; but his time was up.

"7. Retreat." He mumbled before hoing back three times.

Back against he scaffling, he look to and fro. Not a single prisoner remained. "Good".
Leaping into the air he grabbed ahold of the scafling before climbing up to safety. Pulling himself over the ledge he looked down on the remaining bandits who broke threw the cloud of smoke and began their chase.

[6 months later]

And just like that the first of many missions were completed. Though those first few following his initial mission weren't exactly brag-worthy. They each had their highlights. Though none bestowed upon him a greater title than "Koga, the bandit-breaker"; the name the rescued people refered to him as.
Though this wasn't completely true. You see, upon retreating Koga didn't exactly slay or even defeat many of the bandits. In reality he only managed to defeat a handful of them, and only 2 would have any sevre injuries. But the truth will always be exagerated to one extreme or another.

The truth; with the succesful rescue compelted and the escaped prisoners free Koga simply sealed off the tunnel. Using a few explosive tags he managed knockout a few support beans. With one entrance sealed all he had to do was report back to Kumogakure. In doing so he saaaw to make sure those bandits would pay for their crimes.

However the number of escaped bandits and their leader is still in question till this day. One things for sure, Koga would be making his first apeparance on their hit-list.

[I've had this finished for months now. Forgot to actually post it. Finally found it all saved on my pc xD]
