Lin Kuei Tournament. The Pre Show

PostPosted by Hanya » Tue May 24, 2011 11:35 am

The creaking of a large ship docking signaled the beginning of a dozen or so peoples journey, but unbeknown to some, this was the beginning of the end. Fighters had come from all around the world to attend this tournament, either recruited or they had managed to discover word of the tournament one way or another. There were swordsmen, martial artists, criminals, and anyone else who thought they could throw a punch harder than someone else. The night sky was ablaze with dozens of torches lining the way to a giant monster of a boat. With the head of a dragon and sails almost as black as the night, the boat sat in the water, waiting to devour its prey.

A loud horn signaled that boarding was now allowed, and that the ship would be leaving in less than an hour. The ramp descended to the dock and people began to board, being greeted by a man dressed in all black, looking both sinister and commanding. He smiled as each person walked on, yet his smile seemed like it hid treachery behind it, instead of well wishes.

Destiny had seen fit to draw together its fair share of brigands and cut throats. These men were out for blood, one and all, with a few thrown in for glory, a few thrown in for fame, and a hefty chunk just in it for the cash. And of these categories, there were plenty of men that fit each. Souhei, here on behalf of Master Shishi of the Northern Martial Compound of Kasaigakure's Seisen clan. A young boy on a journey for power and courage. Shishi had thought it wise to send the young man to this tournament in his stead. Souhei needed to see what other combatants were capable of. It was a matter of growth for him. So the boy, wearing a typical traveler's cloak, greeted the man at the top of the ramp. Underneath his cloak, he wore only the standard shinobi attire, as well as his headband, dangling from a belt loop on his shorts.

Three men behind him lumbered a giant of a man, one San'Akushu Shinkousha. He was one of the many representatives of ICARUS on board this floating derlict. Kaitou seemed to think that the more men he threw at this particular situation, the better the odds were that one of them would come out on top, with hte prize in his hands. And Shin intended to be that one. Boss-man relied on him. And with Seisuiken on his back, the only weapon he carried on his person, and a set of newly developed Ninjutsu techniques, he was confident that he wouldn't be letting his commander down today. "Oi, who's got the balls to tangle wi' ICARUS!?!?!?!"

Kousen spun, generally jovial eyes instead worried. How had he managed to get himself into this mess?!?! Oh yeah. The money. Money was good. Paid for food. Speaking of which, it had been six hours since a meal! "Man, I'm starving..." Raising his voice, the young prankster shouted in response to the bellowing behemoth several yards separated by the crowd. "Well somebody's got some ego problems!!!" And then he was gone, weaving in and out of the crowd, buying as much time as he could before the rage-filled Shinkousha caught and killed him. Because, you know, dying wasn't exactly on his top ten list of favorite things to do...

Shinkousha, Atric, Seisin; even at a first glance Ryuhou spotted three figures he had met in the past. Two he had crossed blades with before, while another had fought by his side during one of the bloodiest battles he had ever witnessed. It was odd to see so many familiar faces, even given the nature of the competition. A gathering of warriors was one thing, but a gathering of ones he had met before... it was just odd, to say the least. Scattered across the boat he spotted a few nameless figures he had clashed with in the past; one or two had earned his respect and had been spared, and the rest... well, they had chosen to flee from battle after losing a few dozen allies.

Life was precious like that, he couldn't blame them. If they wanted to live knowing that their heart continued to beat because of an ally's sacrifice, it was fine with him.

"He's not here..."

The possibility of crossing blades with Shinkousa or one of the others was enticing, but there was one person in specific he wanted a rematch with, yet another face from Icarus. The two had... unfinished business, of a sort. Sadly, Michio's face was not to be found among the crowd.

Sighing slowly in his position against the outside wall fo the captain's cabin, the white haired teen kept his head low, but his eyes forward; a long katana rested lightly against the planks at his feet, held just below where sheathe and hilt met in a loose grip.
Push your care, push your burdens aside, erase everything inside and leave just one thing on your mind.

Sōjōbō, a young man with flowing olive hair and pale white skin, sauntered onto a wooden docks heading directly for the boarding ramp. The smell of salt and sea danced into his nostrils as an almost nostalgic feeling tip toed through his body. When he was a young boy, the Speaker took him to the ocean and let him ride on his first boat. As Sōjōbō drifted his thoughts to those cherished memories, he noted quickly the dress of the other men. They dressed in war garb and rags, while he was fully dressed in quality clothing. Sōjōbō wore a samue striped with blue plucked straight from the sky and red snatched out of blazing embers, a Hakama blacker than the infinite night, a salmon scaled sash at his waist, and a long black overcoat with brown feathers sprouting from his shoulder blades. He had wooden Daikaku styled sandals with black straps and both a small gourd and scroll hung at his waist.

Sōjōbō approached the greeter with a bright smile.

“Is this the boat to Lin Kuei Tournament.” He asked seeking confirmation before he stepped on any boat. He didn’t want to get on this boat and end up missing engaging the money whores, who took part in this competition.

Waiting alone Nyoko stood away from everyone. This wasn't his exact intention, when he first arrived he found himself within the company of several men. A duo had been sitting directly across from him before. Even to his right stood a husky butcher; the blood upon his apron lead Nyoko to believe he was a butcher. Though perhaps his assumption was wrong. Perhaps he was just a murderer seeking his next victim amongst the crowd?! Though that was less likely then the man being a butcher. Especially when you considering the crowd. Martial artist, Shinobi, Samurai, Criminals... you name it, chances are you could find it.

What ever it may have been, by the time the horn rung for boarding Nyoko found himself alone. Well, almost alone. Unconscious to his side lay a boy. No older then 15 or 16. His name, Koga Nikaru, and he was Nyoko's play thing. A toy. A pet. An experiment. And today! Koga was going to find himself enrolled in the tournament; even if he didn't wish to. It was about time Koga was released to the world. What better way was there to be introduced to the world as a champion?!

None... well not really. But it was as good of a start as any.

---

Making his way to the ship Nyoko carried Koga over his shoulder like a nap sack. Climbing aboard he scanned over the other participants. None looked to promising at first glance. They were all younger. Most seemed to lack much of any experience really. First timers by the guess of it.
A hint of shame filled Nyoko as he wished to have taken part in the tournament when he had a chance. But now, his time had past, it was the next generations chance to shine.

Finding a nice empty corner Nyoko walked over and dumped Koga over his shoulder, hitting the deck with a loud and solid "thud". A few heads turned and watched the vibrant cyan eyed Nyoko as he took one last look at his favorite toy. For this would be the last time he would get a glimpse of him.

Scanning over him Nyoko took several mental photo's to remember him by. Whether it be 6 weeks, 6 months, or 6 years. The chances of him looking the same as when he did now; slim to none. A small teeny tiny microscopic smile creep along the rim of Nyoko's lips.
He'd be alright, kid was strong...perhaps the strongest...

Turning away Nyoko looked over the crew and competitors before speaking to those whom attention he'd stolen.

"His name is Koga Nikaru. He's strong. It's also his first time entering such a competition. Don't let that fool you though. Give it your all and don't hold back." His voice was cold and stern. Every word from his mouth carried weight to it. He was speaking the truth whilst warning each and everyone of them. "Or you'll find yourself watching from the stands" But would they heed his warning?!

Walking off the ship he didn't look back. His time with Koga was over. He could no longer help Koga. He would be on his own from now on. He would have to make it in the world without . Or die and perish like so many others.

After nestling into a spot near the helm of the ship, Atric didn't move from there despite the number of familiar faces he saw on the boat. These last couple of years had changed him a lot. As a whole he had become more controlled and his attitude more austere the more he felt like his life was endangered, such as right now. Just from the competitors he had already seen, he knew them to be demons and monsters. Atric decided that the best choice would be for him to keep his new learned skills a secret till he had to use them. Any such advantage would be necessary for this tournament. Not that he really needed the victory but there was something he had to test. and he wasn't planning on leaving till he did.

The air was stale and ominous. A foreboding feeling of doom settled loudly upon the shoulders of a man who'd found peace within silence. Now, all that he found peaceful had been disrupted by a somewhat obvious attempt at invoking some feeling of fear. Or at least, an attempt to make those approaching distraught. A member of the proud Ukitake clan, Kisuke approached the ship that would soon set sail for a tournament held by the Lin Kuei. While wandering seemingly aimlessly through the lands, he caught wind of the tournament by another man who'd been babbling loudly to a friend of his. Strangely enough, neither of those two had been seen around.

A more peaceful man, Kisuke didn't find much joy in fighting or taking the lives of others; that's not what he'd come for. Instead, he agreed to join the tournament as a combatant in order to learn more. More about the types of fighters and powers that existed within the world and, hopefully, in order to learn more about himself. There was no doubt in his mind that there'd be some powerful fighters at the tournament, so his secondary objective was to grow stronger himself. If there were some strong enough to really push him to his limits, there was no doubt he'd be capable of discovering a whole new power within himself. And, if he himself could grow stronger, maybe he could help bring peace to the world...

But that was just wishful thinking... He had to keep his mind focused on the task at hand. Keeping his life in this tournament. And so, he pressed onward, onto the ship and passed a man with a creepy, almost insidious, smirk about him. Once on the ship, Kisuke made his way to the front of the ship and leaned against one of the rails; looking overboard and the water crashing onto the ship's sides. The number of combatants is rather low... Thinking to himself, he watched the water toss and turn, partially turning his head for a second or two so that he might view others who walked by or approached the boat as well. Each face told its own story and held it's own secretes. The question on his mind now was...

Which face would he be forced to fight first?

As the last combatant walked on the boat the man in all black smiled and raised his hand, signaling that the boat could leave. The ramp was pushed back onto the bat and another large horn signaled that the oat was leaving. Almost as if under some ungodly influence, the sails filled themselves with wind and the ship began to move.

"Everything is ready. Now we just have to get to the island. This mission was definitely worth the pay."

Indeed, more had gone into this mission than anyone else knew. The man in all black, his name was Shang Ki, and he was one of the many members of the Lin Kuei. He had made a trip to the depths of hell itself to find a man named Kaitou, Leader of Icarus, and to inform him of the tournament, knowing that he had at his disposal some of the strongest fighters in that part of the world. He had traveled the lands, looking for a person who had been tagged by another member of the Lin Kuei. This person was called Nyoko, and though he hadn't realized it yet, Nyoko had sent someone in his stead. Shang had searched through a town and could feel a strong aura feeding from one man, and so had began babbling loudly about the tournament to one of his clones. The man had bit, and was now here. Shang had written up his own bounty, then crossed paths with one of the combatants who was a bounty hunter, and then managed to get him to sign up for the tournament just so he could get within reach of him. Shang had been all over the world, and had been a different person for each endeavor, one of his specialty skills being the transformation technique. He had done a lot to get them here, but most of these fighters were hand picked, and they were here for a reason greater than to just fight each other.

It was very late at night, and not much would be going on, so many of the fighters would probably try and catch a nap or at least rest there body since they would be arriving on the island in the morning. From there they would go to the temple where they would be staying. They would be shown their rooms, given breakfast, given a tour of the island, be given a chance to spar or relax, and then a great feast would be held before the tournament. After that it would be time to sleep, and the next day, the tournament would begin. It was a simple event, but within it were many complex things that had their own purpose to the Lin Kuei.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"So whats up guys!"

A blonde haired kid with a bandanna of a headband and a black flack jacket approached the little group of Shinkousha and Ryuhou after nodding to Atric who he had spotted in a corner. His golden eyes peered at his ICARUS comrades, wondering why so many of them were here, but he figured they had there reasons, just like he had his. He wasn't even here for the tournament, he was here for a bounty, but had decided to fight in the tourney to get to his target. Still, it was good to see a familiar face, so he squatted on a box next to them and lit up a cigarette, offering one to anyone who would have one.

"So anybody know where we're headed?"

Shira knew it would be a long trip ahead of him, but it wasn't a night of sleeping for him. He would watch the path they took, mapping out exactly where they were so that he wouldn't have to stay the entire length of the tournament. Once he got his bounty he would be making a quick disappearance, since he was only here for the kill. That being said, it really was up to him whether he stayed or left, so if he had enough fun he probably would stay to at least watch the rest of the fights. Either way, he was ready to look to the skies, and find his course.

"Heyy! ... You!" Shinkousha had not the slightest clue who the bandanna kid was. Granted, the face looked a bit familiar, but that wasn't a whole lot to go off, since Shin saw, and killed, a great number of people on any given day. "I ain't got the slightest clue where we're headed, but Boss-man says the cash would be good for us, and I could use some spendin' money mehself, so I ain't complainin'." Turning about, Shinkousha gave just a moment to examine his competition. Ryuhou, the kid that had fought under him in ICARUS. Good boy, handy with a sword, but not much else. Then there was Atric, another kid from ICARUS, if memory served. That one didn't serve under him, so it was a pure miracle that Shin remembered his face, much less his name. And aside from those, well... nobody important looking.

There had been that one fellow, but all he'd done was drop somebody off, and then disappear...

Kousen stopped dead in his tracks, listening intently to every word the mystery man said as he deposited his sleeping comrade. For some reason, there was an authority when Nyoko spoke. It commanded Kousen's attention, and obedience. But, both of those vanished when he left the boat, and Kousen was back to being his normal idiotic self. Striding toward the slumbering Koga, he very cautiously drew a stick from behind his back. Where he'd gotten it, no one could tell, but at this moment in time, there were a few sailors quite upset that their table was missing a leg. Drawing back his stick, Kousen... poked the slumbering boy. Just to, you know, make sure he wasn't dead. Because that was just the kind of guy Kousen was, the helpful kind!

Souhei found himself perching on the railing of the boat, staring out into the waves. Perhaps this had been a mistake? What if he died? Master Shishi and his family would never even see him again. Was there still time to get off the boat and return home? No! Stopping that train of thought immediately, the young Taijutsu practitioner stood suddenly, pushed off the railing, and began marching. He didn't know where on this little boat he was going, but anything was better than sitting there sulking in his own weakness...

As the ship departed, Kisuke turned to take notice to a small group which had collected and begun talking amongst each other. Uninterested in making conversation with anyone, Kisuke pushed himself off the rail and began towards the center of the boat and inside; where there were rooms for the competitors to sleep. As he passed more closely near the others, he caught a few words that were spoken and was able to catch a few names. But he paid no mind and continued on into the quarters where he could find sleep.

He was particularly tired, but he wanted to make sure he was in top shape for the day ahead. He wasn't sure what exactly would be going on, but it was always best to be prepared. Finding a spot that didn't took particularly inviting, but much more cozy than the wooden floor, Kisuke sat down and thought to himself. The only way he was going to get stronger was to train, and train with the best. This tournament was supposed to composed of some excellent fighters, so he was hopeful that his own skills would improve.

Trying to clear his mind, Kisuke turned to his side and laid down. His eyes shut lightly and his movements ceased. Without interruption, he'd be asleep in no time at all.
