From the eastern desert plains, to the infamous Westlands and the southern coast with its neighboring islands, the Wind Country covers an array of changing landscapes and other settlements. The people who live there are as diverse and powerful as the lands they live on.

"I can't." Akiko said with a slight itching feeling in her head. It was almost like trying to remember what had happened in a dream, the conscious mind being incapable of every truly knowing what was had by the subconscious. However, there was some feeling in her mind that told her it had all worked. She could tell that the slots which stored genetic codes were limited now. Half of the data she had been able to draw upon moments before was gone from her, and only the most recent of the codes, other then that of the formula, were accessible. "But I can tell me slots are locked. It's almost like being Genin again." It was a pleasant surprise, a nostalgic feeling.

"So once the seal is broken I'll be able to recall the formula?" Akiko relaxed herself to deactivate the Indenshigan. When her eyes reopened from the blink, her left eye had returned to its normal green state, but the right side did not. The black triangular design the Indenshigan featured disappeared, but the purple iris did not. She now had two colored eyes. Heterochromia, normally a genetic abnormality, but in Akiko's case, a side effect. She wouldn't know about it though until she saw herself in a mirror. "Tank you fur dis." Akiko gave a sweet peak onto Kokuei's cheek in thanks.

She left to regather the bag of scrolls and documents that she had left on a work desk before giving one final glance around the lab. The idea of having to rebuild was a frightful one. Already she had the task of rebuilding her clan, but to do this she would have to first reconstruct her facility. This time back in the Land of Grass, near to where the pods rested. She would reclaim a patch of land long since forgotten by the Megami touch.

Akiko came out of the tunnel while strapping the hefty bag onto her belt. With a nod towards Airisu, the younger Megami lit the corner of the tag holding the long scroll in length. "Back up know, Loves." Once the way was clear Akiko formed a quick series of hand-signs and molded Mokuton chakra into the ground. Mokuton: Moku Shouheki no Jutsu | Nature Release: Wood Barrier Technique Out of the ground shot several beams of wood that connected in arching fashion in the middle to form a half-dome that rose the full height of the tunnel, and bent in towards the abandoned lab. On the other side of the dome that they all now stood was the parchment burning on the wall, and when the fire met with the seal on the tag it erupted to ignite a chain reaction. The scroll Airisu had stretched out was the same that Akiko had incorporated into one of her puppets, and insanely long exploding seal tag that lit the entire tunnel back to a large stack of tags stored in the tag. It was like small volcano when everything went up, and whatever remained of the Green House above would be blasted apart when the eruption surfaced. Luckily, it would cause so much damage that the tunnel back into the aqueducts would be completely destroyed. They would only have to look out for Doton users from here on out.

"Come on, dis is da fastest way out from da village" Akiko started running down the empty channel of the duct. Great work all around them that had once been constructed by the Gou clan, now was nothing but dark expanses that will likely never be reconstructed. A shame that such art should die.

"Excellent!" Kokuei's facial expressions showed his relief and enthusiasm. It seemed like everything had gone fine! Any side-effects would probably arise in the future. Hopefully Kokuei would have the chance to disrupt the seal before then.

The Nara nodded his head. "Yes. Once the seal is broken everything will return to normal. I can remove the seal for you when you're ready." Unless Akiko had a way to remember one of her locked slots or the formula, Kokuei or another fuuinjutsu expert would be her only option.

Squinting a bit as he surpressed his anxiety, Kokuei lightly rubbed his cheek as he followed behind Akiko and the others as they began the homestretch. With the Green House effectively destroyed, the only place left to go was out of Suna.

They seemed to be in the clear. There were no signs of anyone following them. The massive explosion probably garnered the attention of every soldier. Perhaps even their chakra sensors were too busy to notice.

"Akiko," the Nara called out, approaching his friend. "Once we get out of Suna I can take them to Redwall. You do what you need to. Good luck." To be honest, he didn't think she would survive without luck. "Anything else I can do for you?"

"You 'ave already done so much, just don't stop becoming dis man you are." Kokuei had grown since the raids in the Westlands. Akiko could tell that, and if she wasn't careful, he'd outgrow her. The air within the tunnel was becoming fresher as they approached the exit Akiko had fashioned for the escape route. There still was not light shining through. It's not as though they could walk right out the end of the place given the fact that the aqueduct connects to a river somewhere in the northern mountains. Even if they did find its true mouth, and the source of the water blockage down the line, they would have to fight the force of a diverted stream to exit. Instead, Akiko had made a tunnel just outside of the village.

They were making it so far before Akiko heard a body drop like lead on the stone floor. She stopped and looked back to see Airisu had fallen straight to the ground. Akiko rushed back to the side of the younger Megami and rolled her body over to lay partially in her lap.

"Lady Akiko, I'm sorry--"

Akiko stopped the weak voice with a finger against her lips. "Shh." She didn't want her wasting any more of her strength. "You're over exerting yourself. I twas 'oping ta make it ta da surface before giving you this." She said as she pulled the syringe back out from where she had again tucked it. "Da fresh air und sunlight you've been denied fur so long would do you a world, but dares simply no time." Akiko looked up to Kokuei. "Dare's a corridor that splits off ta da right leading ta a dead end. Da wall's segmented wit vines. Tear it open und date will lead you out." Kokuei would be able to get them all out while Akiko tended to the sick clanswomen.

Airisu was smart, and could tell what the device was from behind her glasses even with her weakened state. She didn't doubt Akiko. Through the course of Akiko's experiments, Airisu and her sister had been injected with many things, and had so much more drawn from them. However, even her trust couldn't stop her from asking. "What is it?"

"It's da same solution date made me und da rest of da Inoculated."

"The Cure?" A spring of excitement shot into her voice, though followed by a cough from the overreaction. "You synthesized it?"

"No, but a friend 'elped me get a'old of it. You'll meet 'im soon 'nough. A shot of dis won't cure your affliction wit your sister, probably." Akiko was only guessing at this again. Since the formula was locked in her memory, she couldn't cross references it with Airisu's DNA. Furthermore, with the Plague so far along, any sample she would take from her ward would be corrupted inherently. "'Owever, it'll give you strength ta last longer, und dat will keep yours sister alive as well." Akiko raised Airisu's head up closer, exposing the girls neck as the purple hair dangled down. With a quick pitch, the formula was shot directly into the jugular. The effects spread like napalm. The black veins that covered Airisu's pale green skin receded out from the injection point as more life was breathed into the green flesh to pick up its hue. When Airisu's eyes again awoken, she felt stronger, strong enough to stand.

The two of the Megami headed out of the exit tunnel together.

Kokuei smiled. He hadn't considered himself a "man" yet. A young adult, sure, there was no denying how old he was. But being a man, a real adult, was more than just physical growth. The Nara felt as if he was on the right track though.

"Okay. Thank you."

Kneeling down next to Akiko, Kokuei searched his mind for something to do to help the green girl. He was not a medic, and his fuuinjutsu couldn't assist with healing. The most he could do was provide support. Perhaps he would look into a Nara or fuuinjutsu related technique after this.

His faint shadow overlapped Akiko's as he stood up. "All right-- please be safe, Akiko." She had the young Megami under control, Kokuei's help was really no longer needed.

Walking away, he commanded the escaped prisoners to follow.

---

Kunai in hand, Kokuei cut away the vines that lead to their freedom. "Finally," he chuckled, blocking the sunlight with his hand.

"Thank God. Where to next? That Redwall place?"

He had forgotten these poor people had been locked away since Suna's fall.

"Yeah. Redwall. Home." The word felt odd on his lips. He had to say it again, just to make sure it was real, "home."

[End]
