Villains!!

Now, I've been on this site for 5 years.

In that time you learn some things, and sometimes you want to share some of those things with others. However, I'm a horrible teacher, so I'll let this link teach you something instead.

...you are making it very tempting to turn one of my ideas into a villain, Akane. o.o

Raika, you're too nice to be a villain...

I wish more of this was considered when making those Good/Evil "choose your path" sort of games. I usually like the villain powers better, but I have to sit through countless situations of just being an unaltruistic dick to get there!

My brother plays this game called "True Evil Path."

See, there's the good path, right.

Then the bad path.

Then he tries to think of what a /truly evil person/ would do.

Example: Playing Fable 2, he fights his way through a group of enemies to see a camp of people who have captured a bunch of slaves. He has the option to either kill the leader and free the slaves, or let the leader take the slaves away.

Good = Kill
Bad = Let them keep the slaves
True Evil = Kill the leader, open the cage, then kill the slaves too.

Your brother sounds like an upstanding citizen and I'm a little disturbed that I'm not the only person who handled that scene in such a manner.
Push your care, push your burdens aside, erase everything inside and leave just one thing on your mind.

thats kinda interesting with the true evil...

Although it seems like the 'true' evil leaves alot to interpertation.

Like using your fable example:

Killing the leader, but leaving the slaves still caputred - seems evil too.
Or
Killing the slaves but leaving the leader to go caputre more- seems evil too!

I quess there leaves alot of room for developing villian personalities and such ^^

There is more to true evil than just being chaotic, true.

He often starts a game as good because he knows the more "good" he is the more power he can gain. Then, once he's gained the power and the trust of his allies and companions, he turns it around and makes all the choices most beneficial to himself!

To /himself/ is the key here. Like in Fallout New Vegas, he would never pick to join Caesar, even though that's the "evil" side. That doesn't benefit /him/ to join someone else's cause! So obviously the best thing for him to do was capture New Vegas for himself, so that he can have all the power.

That also meant in Fable 2's ending instead of taking the Evil Tower for his own dark and demented purposes, he picked the neutral option.

Because he wanted his dog back.

He really liked that dog.

I did the dog option, too.

Sometimes what is interesting is trying to truly put yourself in the character's position, and then make all your decisions based on that. See what the game naturally classifies you as.

Unfortunately, too many alignment-type games only unlock powers with dedicated alignment choices.

I started doing that at Fallout 3.

It made me sad to realize that I'm a lot less altruistic than I thought, lol.

I always have a way of being the good boy in games where you have to take a path, like Dragon age
