[ \Sakura Hiroba | Kamiza | Yomi/ ]
The capital city of Raikou no Kuni, nestled between mountain peaks in the center of the country. Its altitude and location lead to common snowfall, though it is not necessarily cold throughout the year, clear days often leading to be as warm as summer. At the southern end of this star-shaped city lies a great stone bridge spanning a large lake, connecting to the road back down to the rest of the world. The home of both the Daimyo and Kamiza, the Onigami Compounds.

The Medical Department; just above the Hospital and set back a bit into the mountain, this was the headquarters of all Kumogakure Mednin, from lowly MITs--or Mednin-In-Training--all the way up to the recently revived Head of the Medical Department herself, Raika Hofushi.

The MITs that would be arriving there today had received a letter, most often slipped under apartment doors or stuck into their respective mailbox, approving their application to begin training as mednin and describing the time and place of their first training session...

After entering the Medical Department, whether through the stairs leading up from the Hospital or from the door into the Medical Department on the Hospital roof, the MITs that would be reporting for the first time to mednin training would move along the bottom floor of the Medical Department all the way down the hall to the right side of the building before turning into the hallway that comprised the Medical Education hall of the Medical Department. On either side of this hallway, labelled as D1Hs on the maps of the Medical Department and often called such by the mednin and doctors themselves, were various classrooms, with the training rooms being towards the back of the hall, the furthest into the mountain. Each MIT would look for room D1Hs 019, where they would begin their training with an introduction and instruction by a mednin, though they did not know just who it would be yet...

The classroom was smaller than those found in the Academy--after all, shinobi with medical potential were rather rare--and could seat, at most, ten students. Otherwise, the room was much like any other classrooom; teacher's desk in front, blackboard behind, and the rows of student desks facing the teacher's desk.

In total, there would be three students this time around, one of which was a second-time applicant who had already tasted the first lesson once before....

And the teacher had yet to arrive. The clock over the blackboard ticked closer to ten o'clock.

Spoiler:
[insert name here],

Your application to become a medical shinobi has been accepted. You are required to report to the Medical Department's Medical Education Hall, hallway D1Hs, room D1Hs 019, at 10:00 AM to begin medical ninja training. Lateness may result in any penalty the teacher so desires.

OOC: Alrighty, welcome to the Medical Department! ^^ Kudos for making your characters into MITs, and sorry for the wait (seems to be becoming a habit.... <_<'). Post order will be established from here on out.

A tiny studio apartment on the top floor of a building known for its affordability--and correspondingly humbleness--in the downtown area of the refurbished Kumoteikoku. Lit from the inside by only the blue gas-fed flames beneath the cooking ware and the dim glow from thick drawn shades over the only window, the only visible features to the human eye would be a wide hammock, a severely-perforated training dummy, and few police-issued WANDERER notices along the walls bearing the image of a bearded Koumori and a pretty young Koumori with bangs over her eyes. Steady, methodical chopping sounds kept time near the lit stove, the figure standing there unaffected by the darkness as her eyes pierced the murk and motionlessly gazed at the ingredients being diced at her hand. A furred conical ear dipped at the sound of footsteps approaching down the hallway, her mind undisturbed by this ordinary action until they stopped just outside her door. The shadowy girl turned her head listlessly towards the entrance, her hands still working without losing beat at the knife, and across her solid-black eyes the thin line of light cast from beneath the door was separated by an envelope slipping through. The footfalls continued on, but the chopping sounds had stopped. The girl just stood there for a moment, not so much as breathing for that undeterminable amount of time, while only bubbles of boiling water kept away the silence. Her sight could spot the crest of the KMD on the envelope, and it sent her mind somersaulting into the past.

Momona Koumori had been accepted before, but that seemed like a vastly different time. Hundreds of years ago, maybe. She had a twin sister with whom she was inseparable. Their mother was still alive. Their father was a name of respect and honor, not marred with conspiracy and fear. Back then, she had a family.

She blinked, immediately reassuring herself that the teardrop caught between her eyelids was to soothe the prolonged dryness, and not something of an emotional origin. The same way she convinced herself that her suddenly runny nose could only be from the chopped onions or a sneaky cold. The Koumori scraped the diced ingredients into the greased pan, prompting a furious hiss of sizzling vegetables as she wiped her hands on a rag and silently walked towards the awaiting letter. In those few steps it took to reach it she might have careened off her feet, dizzy from her thoughts. Her first--and last--lesson with the Med-Nins was the last event she could recall before her life took its dramatic change, the day her father disappeared and not even her mother, the most faithful and omnipotent force in Tsuuki's existence, knew of his whereabouts. How painful those days seemed as the three Koumori ladies were without the steady comfort of their male figure, but the hurt had only truly started with the terrorist attacks that ended Mitsumi Koumori, still unaware of what had become of her beloved. Not even the bond-from-birth partnership of the Koumori sisters were able to withstand that blow, and Momona would see her sister and herself grow as distant as two ships passing in the night. She was alone then, but that realization ironically would not come until she saw her father and sister again months later. That was also the last time Kumo ever saw of those two Koumori, taking with them the ashes of her mother. Only then did Momona recognize her solitude, and swore she would fiercely redeem the grave injustice.

The only Koumori left in Kumoteikoku stooped and retrieved the letter, not opening it as her fingers slowly rubbed the seal and gave her a brief slice of her happier past. She rested her body in the sling of her hammock, the ropes creaking from her weight. Following the declaration of Wanderer-status on Tsuuki and Koromi Koumori, and the shift of the Koumori people back into the deep woods, Momona proceeded on her plan to obtain jurisdiction to hunt down her traitor kin the only way she knew how: through the operations of her father's revived organization BOLT. Yet his curse carried on, and despite her knowledge of the squadron from being the ex-Commander's daughter, in addition to her acceptable skills and references, Momona was repeatedly denied entry as a BOLT-IT. Either from sympathy or lack of red stamp ink, her "uncle" Long Fei finally approached Momona to reluctantly explain that the Kumo Council had forbade her to join BOLT due to her relationship to the disgraced former Commander, citing the risks and reasons to distrust her entry into the high-security operation. Never one to be easily defeated, Momona went for Plan-B and joined Kumo's Police Force, which had much more lenient terms of entry. As hoped, she even had been selected for ROAR. Yet as she continued through her missions there it was clear her obtained political power would only extend to the walls of the city, and it was far beyond them that her targets dwelled. Plan B was not an alternate route--it was the long-way to her original goal.

A thumb with skin as resilient as leather parted the envelope, and undefined eyes quickly scanned the message inside. She nodded once. Step 2 was in motion, as so now as a ROAR recruit and once more as a MIT, she was taking further steps in gaining abilities and influence. BOLT had just became that closer in reach. Momona set the letter aside and went to her stove. She liked her vegetables a little burned.

***

Momona had no trouble this time around locating the classroom; it was the same as that last time a year or so ago, and her city-navigation skills had much improved with her urban life. Entering the medical building, the nurses that remembered her from her last time would notice some subtle yet always eye-catching differences. Momona was a big girl. She towered well over six and a half feet tall, her body as sturdy as an ox with an apparent equal blend of muscle and fat. Thick thighs powering her long legs, mightily rounded arms that could effortlessly carry an entire cow, and a body that was wide at the hips and bust as well as at the stomach. Momona had obviously fed herself well off her own cooking, but had not allowed herself to get too soft through comfort. Her face was still resembling a Koumori's, plucky and outrageously darling, and of course sporting black eyes, fanged teeth, and stretch furred ears. Her hair had grown to her shoulders but was still messily wavy and platinum white, though dark roots were emerging, not at all a result of a dye-job but just a strange shift of her natural color, perhaps reflecting her own shift in temperament. She wore a double-breasted white jacket, opened at the top for her backbreaking bust, with wide sleeves rolled back to her mid-forearm revealing black lining, and a crimson apron tied around her wide stomach like a sash and draping between her tight flared-bottom heather pants. Utensils and jugs were draped around her hips, and she still carried her massive flat spatula on her back, as well as a fanning assembly of other smaller, yet still oversized cooking tools, all held together by a magnetic backpack she had merged with bandolier straps. Momona said nothing to the staff as walked past on bare feet, still moving silently somehow despite all the dangling weaponry, and showed herself to the classroom.

She took the same seat as last time: opposite end from the window, third seat back, propping her tool assembly from her back against the wall and squeezing into the desk. Her knees hit the chair in front of her and her stomach was pressed against the desk, but she tried not to look uncomfortable as she popped one of three bento boxes from her tool kit and opened it, producing a pair of chopsticks seemingly out of thin air and lackadaisically dining on her prepared breakfast of omelet, fried rice, stir-fry, miniature donuts . . .

"Céng chóng xīn," she mumbled in that foreign language she learned before Japanese, and briefly wondered if her sister still shared that habit with her. So much had changed.

A flock of sparrows flew through into rain droplets and turned into rainbows as the glass dolphins danced with the stars in the twilight sky. The Owls and Squirrels flitted through threes, the crickets began to play their song of longing, resonating it all across the orange background. A young boy sat atop a hill over watching a small duck pond. A pastel butterfly snapped the boy out of his small reverie, lightly tickling his nose with its wings. The butterfly hovered there only a moment before flying away, allowing the boy to follow its path with his eyes. Off into the Horizon infront of him the Moon crashed into the Sun. Columns of smoke and ash rose from the doomed star as it incinerated all of the now burning moon rock. A wall of smog and ash burned all the trees and plant life in sight and chocked everything under its blanket into a toxic, black night.

Images of running through a building, a rocky path, a shrine, and a dojo rushed past. The boy had now tripped and landed hard onto the grainy Tatami mats, that dug into soft fleshy parts of his hands as he tried to push himself up but failed since his toe got caught on the edge of the mat, sending him back down into the ground again. The boy quickly turned around so he was somewhat was sitting up when he saw the figure there. A black silhouette with a blade in front of him, catching the glint of the moonlight turning it into a deadly Cheshire smile. The boy tried to scream and raise his arm as the figure brought up the sickle back over his shoulder. All that followed were images of black feathers and blood painting everything in red.

Saori woke with a start, covered in sweat. Another nightmare...

Three hours later, Saori was heading out the door of her trash-cluttered flat wearing an teal-colored tank-top and white cargo pants and her favorite deep dark-chocolate colored boots. She had her orange messenger bag slung over her shoulder and she threw on her helmet as she jumped onto her bike and took off through the winding streets of Kumogakure. The last two years she had spent in the city hadn't resulted in much of her the terms of her pilgrimage other then the several civilian medical training courses she had taken, but nothing significant had happened before receiving her MIT acceptance letter two weeks prior.

As Saori continued to race towards the hospital down the long winding roads, she thought of how she had become accustomed to city life. She still missed the big, open fields of the fire country, the hustle bustle of Kumogakure and the stunning view out into the landscape was irreplaceable. But at the same time, because she could just buy food, Saori never took the time to learn how to cook properly and the trash of take-out had begun to pile up back in her apartment. Her place wasn't dirty because she didn't know how to clean, its more that she refused to clean on any day other then her designated cleaning days, and the bags, cans, and various boxes stacked up faster then she could believe was physically possible. She shook her head, all of this was probably irrelevant; she needed to concentrate at the task at hand. She sped up.

She reached the place fifteen minutes later, parked and locked her bike, and ran up in search of the room in question, D1Hs. After finding where the room was, Saori took a stop at the nearby ladies washroom. She sized up her body in the mirror showing a cruel and somehow demeaning reflection of her. There was a white hairband in her silky 1ft-long dark brunette hair with a small cyan bow on the side of it. She sized up every detail of her face, from the golden-y hazel eyes that she often felt betrayed what she was feeling to the world, to the nose she knew was slight bigger then the other girls, but she always hope no one would notice to her complexion, which she was happy was mostly clean except for the small mole right below her left eye. She carried her gaze down to her tanktop, nothing special about it; just a mono-color size-3 tank-top. She applied a small amount of eyeliner to both eyes and small amount of watermelon flavored lip-balm to the her lips before smacking them a couple times, packing her stuff into her bag again and made her way into the room.

As she entered the small classroom, she saw that she wasn't alone. There was a gargantuan woman sitting in one of the desks chowing down on what looked to be some freshly cooked food, which smelled better then anything she had eaten in a very long time. Not that she was going to ask for any, she had already eaten a fairly filling meal of leftover sheshuan shrimp from take-out the night before and some orange juice from her fridge that was stuffed with even more unfinished leftovers and refrigerated beverages..

Hello, its nice to meet you, my name is Hageshiikaze Saori. What is yours? she said as she took a seat next to the girl who was enjoying her meal.

Maya lowers her book slightly, lifting one hand off to wearily rub at her eyes. Slowly shifting her gaze, she notices the red tinge in the sky outside of her window, sighing at how long she stayed up for. Flipping her book over so what page she was on wouldn't be lost, Maya stood up and stretched, working some of the stiffness out of her muscles before reaching over and turning her lamp off. A moment later she was in her bed, fast asleep.

Maya slowly opened her eyes, yawning a bit. Something was off, but she just couldn't place it...

'Wait, why isn't the clock making any noise?' It took a moment for that thought to be fully processed in her sleep-clouded brain, but then everything snapped into focus. She threw her covers off of her, jumping out of the bed and flying across to her closest. The door was snapped open a second later and a pair of hands panicky search through it for something to wear. Maya zipped across to the bathroom, switching her clothes and grimacing at her hair through the mirror. 'Urg, I need a brush, but no time, this will have to do.'

She finishes changing and bolts out the door, making it down the steps and a few feet down the street before pausing. 'Yep, forgot my equipment, great...' Maya spins on her heel, bolts back up her steps and into her house, grabbing two pouches and hurriedly clipping them onto her pants before grabbing a small backpack and bolting back out the door.

She pauses for just a second to grab a bite to eat, grabbing it and dropping coins on the counter without slowing. She slides to a stop at the entrance to the building. 'Where was I to meet up at? Where is that damn letter...' She shifts through the pockets of her backpack, pulling out a rather crumpled up letter, pulling it apart quickly and scanning it. 'Let's see...hallway D1Hs...room H1Hs 019. Got it!' With that, she was off again, scanning for first the correct hallway, and after finding that, sliding to a stop in front of the door.

She takes a moment to compose herself, trying to make it look like she didn't just run the whole way here, then opened the door and stepped in. It only took her a moment to notice that the teacher wasn't there yet. With a sigh of relief, she picks a seat and sits down, folding her arms on the desk and resting her head on them. In the next moment she was asleep, still a bit tired from staying up so late.

10:05 AM.

The door of the classroom gently slid open to reveal a woman garbed entirely in black, skin fully covered by the Ryuujinscale armored mednin suit, gloves, boots, and Ryuujinscale mednin mask. She paused for a moment in the doorway, gazing over the three young shinobi in the classroom--

...ah.

One was asleep. First time that had happened so far.

Momona had grown a bit; as long as the excess weight didn't hinder the Koumori, Raika didn't mind it much. Though... eating in the classroom was a bit much.

And the remaining girl was a Hageshiikaze, a clan that once had been legendary for their healing techniques and wings; lately, though, she wasn't hearing about them as often as she had in her genin and chunin days.... The Hageshiikaze had taken on the more usual option of attempting to chat with a fellow MIT.

A faint spark of electricity crossed the distance between the woman and the sleeping girl to shock her awake, though the intensity was little more than that of a static shock; the woman simultaneously stepped into the room, closing the door behind her to approach the teacher's desk up front. Hands fiddled with the fastenings on the mask before gently pulling it away to reveal first a cascade of silver hair, then warm, fierce, gently brown eyes and a slight smile, the mask ending up attached to the hip of her armored suit.

Raika's eyes met the gaze of each of her new--or former, in Momona's case--students before she began to speak.

"Welcome to your first day of training as a Mednin-In-Training, or MIT. I am Raika Hofushi, the current Head of the Medical Department, sennin of the village, and your new teacher. I hope you all do well. First off, I must go ahead and tell you: you won't just be sitting at a desk memorizing medical knowledge. I'm going to train you just as hard as the BOLT-ITs are, though your training will differ from theirs." Her smile turned into a fierce grin with that last statement. "I expect you to be able to perform more duties than just healing your allies. I want you to be able to protect them as well until the situation is safe enough for you to heal them. Now then... let's just start with a simple introduction, shall we? Name, reason for wanting to be a mednin, etcetera. Anything you think worth mentioning to myself and to your fellow MITs. Who's first?"

The Koumori girl was beginning to understand how her kin figured their hearing went beyond what is just heard; before she even realized there was steps her ears stiffened naturally, telling her someone was coming. Memories of the first class she had came back to her, and briefly she wondered where those past classmates were now. Didn't that Omoi girl go on to some great accomplishments? Soon the footfalls came to the door, and Momona checked that her own pose was casual and disinterested.

Their eyes met, and Momona gave a slow nod of acknowledgement while her mind poured over the girl's details. Attractive, and she knew it, the artificial watermelon smell catching the Koumori's sensitive olfactory nerves and her expertise in taste linking it to lip gloss. The solitary mole beneath the left eye drove her wild, so Momona turned her eyes away to keep herself from blushing, maintaining her air of indifference, and almost losing it when the girl chose the seat next to her, out of any in the room. Momona adjusted herself just slightly, cursing the chair for groaning a little under her weight. She had one leg extended into the path between their desks, leaning on the arm of the desk with her head turned slightly away from the friendly newcomer. Her Koumori ear was tickled by her voice.

Momona gave another nod to the girl, more politely this time. "Koumori Momona, but you can call me Mo. Nice to meet ya, too," she says with a smile and lackadaisical tone. She slid her bento box towards the girl, the small powdered donuts in easy reach for Saori. "Donut? I make them myself." That's it, baby steps, Momona told herself. You used to do this effortlessly.

Footfalls stopped outside the door, and Momona's ear pulled her eyes to look at it, awaiting the newcomer. There was something delightfully invasive about sharing the next student's last moment of assumed privacy. Was she nervous? Trying to cover something up? The door slid open, and the way that the next girl sighed and quickly shuffled to a desk told Momona that it was just tardiness. She didn't even look around at Saori and Momona, just found a chair to crumple into and that was that. Momona didn't blame her for panicking, it was a couple minutes past 10 am and still no signs of the teacher. Even so, Momona had a suspicion what face she'd see. The same person was late last time.

In answer, the familiar figure stepped into the room, even the gentle way in which the door was slid open telling Momona she was right. The Koumori girl maintained her casual posture but her black eyes studied ravenously, always in awe of the sennin's grace and natural posture. Another memory came forward, the echoes of her dad once saying the dragon woman was elegance incarnate. The mask came off, glistening hair spilling out and the strong gaze casting out over her students. Momona gave a slight smile back, helpless to admiring the woman, even as she tazed the sleeping student.

Following her prompt, the Koumori raised her hand to volunteer. Getting out of her desk to stand proved to be an obstacle for a brief moment, wiggling to free herself from the furniture obviously intended for someone smaller than herself. Normal-sized people. She cleared her throat and spoke matter-of-factly, eyes closed. "I'll go first. This isn't my first time in this class, I'll just get that out of the way. I went through some bogus shit since then that kept me from returning to class. Perhaps like some of you, I lost several people in that last terrorist attack on our village, and it's taken some time to readjust to a new life."

That was a bit of a downer note, she noticed suddenly, and so patted her belly and smirked to the class. "As you can see, I try to eat my grief. Anyway, I'm Momona, a Koumori, but you won't see much of my family around here these days. That's why I'm interested in becoming a Mednin, so I can do my part to protect the people of Kumo." She lowered her voice. "Part of the reason," she added, then blushed slightly as it came out louder than she intended, and trying to cover it up quickly blurted out. I-like-cooking-thank-you."

She went to sit back into her desk, but the same reason she had to wiggle to get out now kept her from getting back in. Without trying to look so awkward, Momona instead sat on the desk behind her and put her legs in her original seat, leaning on her knees like it was nothing unusual.

The lady nodded politely towards Saori as she answered lazily with a kind smile on her face. "Koumori Momona, but you can call me Mo. Nice to meet ya, too," Saori returned Momona's smile. Momona-san seemed to be a nice person, and even though the back of her brain hissed at her to be skeptical and cynical, Saori couldn't help but feeling that the person in front of her had something good in her soul. The response had seemed to be earnest and it seemed to speak novels about the kind of person Saori thought Momona was. Saori quickly mentally reprimanded herself for letting her mind go wild over such a simple thing. Though what came out of Momona's mouth next sent Saori's thoughts into an even more complex and confusing dilemma.

"Donut? I make them myself." Saori's mind erupted into a war of desire and guilt. She had already eaten, but the donuts called out to her with an almost sublime way. Sweets were a vice that were painful for her to avoid; things like cakes, brownies, crepes, etc. The want slowly evolved into an unexplainable need as time was passing by. Saori quickly decided to cut down on her second dessert later that night in an attempt to keep her quaint diet balanced. In the four seconds that had passed between the offer and her response, her face had remained almost the completely the same, only a few movements of her eyes and the slight twinge to a slightly greener shade in the color of her hazel eyes betrayed the inner turmoil she had felt.

"Thank you very much, Momo-san!" she said moments before she bit deeply into her delicious morsel with a strong feeling of guilty pleasure. That's when Saori perked up, someone had walked into the room. She turned to see a new girl walk into an open desk and lay her head down. Saori was going to call out to the girl when she thought better of it and finished the donut instead.

A couple minutes passed by when suddenly Saori's feathers bristled underneath her shirt, chakra had been in the air only milliseconds before an intimidating figure scale-like clothing strode into the room. The figure removed it's mask to reveal a beautiful woman beneath it. Saori felt color drain from her face, The woman had an air of maturity and a sense of grace that Saori could probably never reproduce with her spicy-cool style. She had no idea why that bothered her but it left her with a strange feeling in her heart. Saori sat up straighter as the woman continued to talk and introduce what the general plan of their program was. When she asked for volunteers to introduce themselves, Momona-san stood up first and told about herself. When she brought up the terrorist attack, Saori could not help herself from bringing a grimace to her face. during those events, She had kept to herself and let whatever happen, happen. She wasn't going to let herself go into harms way, not until she achieves what she needed to achieve. Though, in the aftermath, she visited the medic tents and assisted in healing the wounded regardless.

After Momona finished her intro, Saori stood up and took a step away from her desk. "My Name is Saori of the Hageshiikaze family. My reason for wanting to become a medical ninja is to help guide my clan towards the future and becoming stronger. It's a pleasure to meet you!" She finished with a bow and sat down, her face was flustered. She calmed down as she reassured herself that she had not said too much or too little, just what was expected of her. She turned her attention to the girl who had been asleep, it was her turn to go.

Maya's eyes flew open, being jolted awake by something. She glazes around the room, trying to figure out what happened, then it connected. Someone shocked her! She was halfway out of her seat before she noticed the teacher, the words died in her throat and Maya was back in the seat. She mutters a bit to herself as the teacher begins to talk. Something about telling the class of three people about themselves.

'Wooo, we could have done this later. Oh man, three people! So hard.' She crosses her arms and lets the other two go first. Since she only listened long enough to catch their names, Maya's eyes began to drift. Glancing around the room to check it out. She focuses back onto the teacher as the other girl, Saori of some clan, sat back down. She snaps to attention and stiffly stands up. "My name is Maya and I'm here to learn how to heal people." She sits right back down, crossing her arms again and closes her eyes.

'I'll just rest my eyes a litt-'

Just like that, Maya was out like a light. Drifting back into the dream that was interrupted just a few minutes ago.

All was as expected, really, except... for Maya.

As the girl went back to sleep after her very brief introduction, Raika released a slow breath, closing her eyes for a moment, sparks of electricity holding brief existence here and there on the sennin's body.

Slow, deliberate steps brought her in front of the slumbering genin once more, and a gloved hand came to a rest on the girl's shoulder... before Maya's body lit up with sparks and she jolted upright with a cry, Raika's hand slipping away once her student was thoroughly awakened by the pain and tingling discomfort; it was still a mild punishment, all considered, and no real damage had been done....

"Maya."

Brown eyes were piercing and fierce, her face an emotionless mask, her voice calm and steady, yet in a way that arrested all attention.

"Next time you show up to class, I trust you will be well-rested... and I trust that you will pay attention and not fall asleep again. If you do, your next awakening might be against the wall. Is that clear?"

Her feral gaze lingered on the genin for a few more moments before she turned and moved back in front of the teacher's desk.... And when Raika faced her students again, her expression and eyes had resumed their usual warm, gentle, fierce appearance.

"Now then," she smiled, "since you have all introduced yourselves, let's begin the real introduction. It's time to give you a better idea of what all you'll be doing here. There is, of course, your training in the medical arts, and the typical training in evasive action; after all, if the mednin of the team is taken down, who will heal your comrades? I will also be giving you stealth training and combat training to further your normal skills as shinobi. Your training will deal with hands-on experience, observation, and studying books and medical texts. Any questions so far?"

The progression of dynamics between the sleepy Maya and the quiet storm that was Raika triggered a sensation within Momona which had not stirred for many months. She chuckled, in that hearty, good-natured way that Raika might recognize to be genetic among the Koumori. Inside, she wished from a corner of her heart that Koromi could see Raika-sama twice taze a student--then threaten to fling against a wall. As refreshing as it was, Momona swallowed her tittering out of respect for her superior, yet her mind was pondering now just how far Raika's patience could be pushed, and the ensuing reaction.

Still displaced to sitting on the desk, Momona proceeded with acting as casually in this position as possible, but to be expected of a Koumori her ears were fixed intently on Raika's words. The question had been on her mind since the day she resolved to rejoin the Med Squad, because when the idea first came to her it was immediately followed by the question, why? Medics were meant to heal, and at one time that appealed to Momona until she experienced human pain beyond relief by ninja techniques. She knew she wasn't special for it, grief is typical in the Ninja Nations, but that recognition of widespread suffering in the hearts of thousands made physical healing seem pointless. It was true that Momona wanted to know techniques to aid in protecting others, but her sights were set on a path that would require her to take on the aggressive form of defense: disabling the opponent before he causes the harm.

At Raika's prompting, Momona spoke up. "Will we be able to pursue particular aspects over others within the Medical Arts? Say, if one of us wanted to focus more on the combative skills."

Her cheeks flushed suddenly, another question that had been on her mind and was much more revealing to her nature than the previous question. "And, uh, will we be responsible for purchasing these texts? The restaurants haven't been pulling in as much business lately, I'm a little light this month."

Saori saw the exchange between their instructor and the third girl, Maya. Their instructor seemed highly volatile even at room temperature. Saori was able to stifle her laugh with a cough, but couldn't help a smile from spreading across her face. Puns were a weakness for her, she almost couldn't help herself in their presence. It took her a minute but she was able to reclaim her calm reverie, trying her best to hold the air she was taught her entire childhood to have in front of others.

Momona-san began talking, bringing to attention to possible additional expenses. Saori suddenly became flustered. "Yes, Money would be a huge issue, I have a set allowance from my clan for living necessities not giving much room for much else those books looked expensive and where as other people wouldn't agree that spa treatment wasn't 100% necessary, Saori would happily argue otherwise. A girl had to do her best to look her best right? Though sadly her clan would say otherwise, and that those funds had been sent for resources such as textbook and other things she would need.

Saori stared at their instructor to see her answer, and to see what happened next. Her impatience was beginning to increase. If this was all that was going to happen today or even ever, why was she wasting her time here? The anxiety bit deep into her soul in the way that it bites into a person who had yet to see any progress after a long time of effort or waiting. Saori restrained herself from sighing, she would have to wait a little longer for that answer, but that's all she would wait.

Maya jumps up, suddenly very awake, much to her discomfort. She leveled a glare at the sensei, since clearly that was the only person here who would do such a thing, or use lightning for that matter. A moment later Maya dropped her gaze, muttering a bit under her breath about how unfair this was before replying. "Yes Sensei. I will try to come to class well-rested Sensei.

She props her head up with her hands, and just stares at the far wall, only half listening. Well, until the other two asked about if they had to buy the texts or if they would be supplied. Maya was suddenly all ears, staring directly at Raika while waiting for the answer.

Raika chuckled softly at her students' concerns.

"All textbooks I teach from will be provided, but you should consider it the same as borrowing from the library; the Medical Department keeps a set of reference books, but we don't have enough to give out to everyone. So if you want a medical text to keep, feel free to buy your own whenever you like, but it's not required."

This was certainly a class of several firsts, it seemed.

"Now then, if there are no other questions, I'd like you all to follow me. We'll be starting your training with a bit of a combat exercise so that I can see where you all stand in your current abilities. I'll heal everyone's wounds afterwards. Now then, we'll be going on a little field trip to the Eastern Plains for this exercise via dragonback. Everyone, follow me out to the Hospital roof." And she simply walked out the door at a steady pace, moving through the Medical Education hallway to the main first-level hallway of the Medical Department and then heading all the way to the opposite side of the building, nodding to the secretary there. "Tell Hoshizora Tsukiyo that he's in charge while I'm away, as usual."

The secretary simply nodded as the Medical Department Head walked past, writing down a note "Yes, Raika-sama."

Raika turned and walked out the door to the roof of the Hospital below, pausing and stepping to the side once she had gotten outside to hold the door for her students. Then, once they had all gotten out, she let the door shut and headed out to the center of the spacious rooftop, removing the glove covering her right hand and biting her right thumb just hard enough to draw blood before forming a few quick handsigns before lightly pressing her right hand to the ground. "Kuchiyose no Jutsu."

A puff of smoke formed to cover the half of the roof that Raika was on, just barely avoiding covering the three MITs. After a moment there was a strong gust of wind from within the cloud and it was dispersed almost immediately to reveal a large golden dragon with amethyst eyes, the great beast folding her wings to her back after having blown away the smoke and looking over her shoulder with a gentle smile.

"Ah... it's certainly been a while, hasn't it? Gotten too caught up in your duties?"

Raika smiled sheepishly, reaching up to touch her old friend's muzzle. "Yeah, sorry about that.... Off to the Eastern Plateaus again."

Amethyst eyes turned to the small group behind the dragoness's summoner. "Ah, Momona, good to see you again. As for you two... I am Seira, a long-time summon and partner of Raika. Greetings."

Seira never changed, always gentle and warm despite the fact that most people would say she looked fearsome.... It was a breath of fresh air and a reminder of days long gone by. Raika's eyes were distant for a moment before she leapt atop the golden dragoness's back and turned to face her students. "Come on up. Momona, help me keep an eye on Maya and Saori during take-off."

Momona exhaled loudly, her meager finances safe for now. She could buy that premium venison after all, but her mind set that reward aside for later. They were moving out, and Raika had mentioned a combat exercise. "Huuàn," she said cheerfully, the desk creaking with equal cheer as she bounced off and effortlessly adorned her backpack arsenal. Her movement was sort of intimidating, in the way that a semi-truck moving is intimidating. Momona carried herself well, tight and determined but gracious enough not to trample anyone around her. She followed Raika to their path on the roof, another wave of memories flooding back with the acridity of deja vu as the steps passed beneath her.

When the roof was opened it stopped Momona, her eyes squeezing shut and swaying her body slightly in the daylight. She continued to press forward, knowing her stopped body was probably clogging the stairway, her ears stiff now and guiding her until she was out of the way. Her fingers slipped into her hair and she plucked out a few pins, allowing long bangs to release and form a sort of shaggy veil over her sensitive eyes.

As the summoning commenced, Momona stood cock-hipped with a smirk, playing that she had seen this before and trying to hide that it was still stunning to behold. The magnificent creature appeared, and somewhere in the strangest swamps of Momona's mind was a whispered wonder of what dragon tastes like. Momona grinned at the summoned beast like an old friend, enthusiastically bowing--not curtseying--to the familiar face. "Ni hao, Seira-sama! I apologize, I'm a bit heavier than last time," she chuckled, and instead of leaping up to the dragon's back took a short dash at the body and climbed up swiftly.

"You got it, sensei," she chirped and turned to lend a hand should one of the other students need it. Momona suspected Raika had chosen her not because Momona had rode this dragon before, but for her relation and upbringing with Tsuuki, the Flight Master. Didn't anyone tell her? Koromi was the one that took after their father, Momona was given her mother's genes. Even at age 5, the twins were better passengers with Tsuuki than their mother, often teased for her death-grip during flight. Momona had plenty of hours in the sky to be effective, but she was starting to understand her mother's preference for the ground. Her teeth ground tightly together as she thought of her mother's ashes, scattered into space by Tsuuki.

So if you want a medical text to keep, feel free to buy your own whenever you like, but it's not required." Saori relaxed, she hadn't realized that she had been holding her breath. Thank goodness.

After that they all made their way to the roof, Saori just followed Momona after picking up her own bag, quickly learning the girl's tendency to suddenly stop and get distracted. She almost crashed straight into her back on the stairs when she took a second to pin up her hair. Despite the many stops, all Saori could think of was this combat exercise. What would they have to do? Would that happen again? Saori couldn't help but feel her stomach ball up. She tried to distract herself by concentrating on something else, but this part of the hospital was pretty deserted. She let out another sigh and continued to follow the group.

When they finally got to the top, She leaned against the metal fence as she looked melancholicly out onto the city. When suddenly her wings bristled again from underneath her shirt, she turned around and saw a dragon. Her first instinct was hesitation, to gauge the creatures hostility before acting. It wasn't till she realized it had come because of their instructor that she relaxed. She walked up slowly to the dragon, nodding her head slightly out of respect to the dragon, before accepting Momona's hand up get onto the beast's back. "Thank you very much, Momo-chan."

She couldn't help but think So it begins
