Of Darkness & Shadows (Arzy & Fei)

[ \Sakura Hiroba | Kamiza | Yomi/ ]
The capital city of Raikou no Kuni, nestled between mountain peaks in the center of the country. Its altitude and location lead to common snowfall, though it is not necessarily cold throughout the year, clear days often leading to be as warm as summer. At the southern end of this star-shaped city lies a great stone bridge spanning a large lake, connecting to the road back down to the rest of the world. The home of both the Daimyo and Kamiza, the Onigami Compounds.

Of Darkness & Shadows (Arzy & Fei)

The black marble of the floor, the crystal-clear glass of the ceiling, the white of the pillars and the stone-gray body and emerald eyes of the statue in the center.

The sapphire-haired young woman gazed upon her former mentor in silence, lightly leaning against her brunette beloved beside her, his arm wrapped around her waist and their fingers entwined.

She was now Captain of BOLT, and one of the best mednin in Kumo.

He was now BOLT Commander, and one of the most powerful shinobi in Kumo.

Together they had become practically unbeatable.

And she... she was so close to finally being able to save Kaitou-kun. Just a little more....

Her hand gently squeezed her beloved's, a slow sigh escaping her as her free hand absently touched the black ring with the golden-light-infused sapphire it was set with. She was so happy to have Otoha finally home. And they had so much to do.

Long Fei stood before them, gazing up at the skies with a hand that reached for that deep blue and white, his frozen smile immortalized in stone. She knew he still lived, despite his petrification....

Omoi breathed a soft breath, sapphire eyes steadfastly gazing upon the gleaming emeralds that made up the statue's eyes.

"'These are the feelings you will cling to'...." she quoted softly, a smile finding its way to her lips.

And then....

Darkness took her.

Omoi's eyes snapped open.

She felt Otoha close by, still unconscious.

She scented a third, and she shot up in disbelief, eyes latching onto the man in the gloom.

And then... she recognized the feeling of being set on edge for no apparent reason, a distant, barely noticeable whispering all around them finding its way to her sensitive ears.

Instinct guided her to her beloved first, a soft kiss bringing him awake as surely as any smelling salts. He was her light; she needed him in this place.

And then... she silently approached the unconscious man who still laid on the ground, his body tattered and bruised. Green glowed around her hands as she healed his wounds, seamlessly knitting together flesh before a few light pats to the cheek and a soft call awakened Long Fei, a slight smile forming on her lips despite the situation at hand.

"Captain.... It's time to wake up."

Even as he woke, Otoha's heart fell. They weren't at the crossroads, hadn't ventured near that place since the incident, and it had happened again. It had followed them, had struck in the very heart of Kumogakure. Were they the only ones affected by the phenomenon, or had it managed to drag half the village along with them? Dragging himself up into a seated position, he smiled as Omoi slipped past, moving off somewhere behind his position. He took a moment to get a feel for their location, before said location decided to come to life like the last time, and try to eat them.

Grass covered the landscape, or as much landscape as could be seen. Not lush, fertile grass, but a stubborn, dried growth that simply refused to die. Directly ahead, a twisted and burned sword, plunged into a ring of stones. He stood and approached, reaching for the odd weapon's hilt- a moment later it burst into flames, a warm heat radiating from the twisted blade. "A bonfire?" The heat it was giving off was quite impressive, even though for some odd reason he hadn't been burned when it ignited. Feeling uncomfortable so close to the flames while already wearing his warm cloak, he stepped away from the bonfire, turning to his right. A well stood nearby, cracked and battered though it was. He approached and peered down into the abyss; rather than water, or even a bottom, he simply saw darkness, and got the impression that the well descended far deeper than should be possible. He moved to move around the well, and heard a soft squeak from below his boot; a quick glance revealed a tattered doll, which he picked up. A hunch had him slipping the doll into a pocket, although he couldn't have said why. Turning in place, he scanned the area again.

Beyond the bonfire was a wall seemingly formed out of one massive stone, runes etched into the surface. For a fleeting instant, he would have sworn that he had seen a man standing by the stone, visible through the heat-haze of the bonfire, but the apparition was gone as soon as he had noticed it. To the left of the wall was a path, headed down. To the right, a path headed up. The right path branched once more; the left seemed to lead towards the middle ground, where a series of massive crosses could be seen barely stretching above the wall, a graveyard? The rightmost path continued upward, finally meeting a sheer cliff-face where there seemed to be a series of chains, perhaps an elevator of some sort.

The land itself seemed to be floating, or near enough. He approached the edge and looked down, feet firmly held in place with chakra. The clouds were visible so far below that he had to strain his eyes to see them, a simple fact that he found more disturbing than anything else in this strange land- if they were so far above the clouds, breathable air should have been little more than a dream, and yet here he was, breathing as easy as in anyplace else. A voice seemed to whisper in his ear for a moment, but he ignored it, turning to face his companions, and leaving the edge of the world.

"Welcome back," he stated softly, eyes falling upon the Raikage-made-flesh. He had dreamed of the day they would finally find a way to revive Fei, but... now that the day had come, everything he'd dreamed of telling the man, the stories and the battles, it was all floating just outside of his reach. He hadn't imagined for a moment that they'd be reunited with the Raikage in a world that could very well serve as a hell unto itself.

-A chuckle emanated from the nearly empty space. It was a friendly laugh accompanied with cheerful resolve, and along with it was the clinking of china. Yet the almost ghostly feel to the laugh was almost hollow as it echoed around the area, what should have been an impossible feat. It was impossible to place where sound had come from, as it seemed to have come from everywhere, and nowhere. What could be detected, was the warm aura that one felt the closer and louder the sounds became. It had almost become a boyish giggle now, and the laughter was accompanied with the sweet scent of freshly brewed tea. Was that even possible?

-"Kind of you Omoi, but futile." said the familiar voice, looking down on his two students with squinting eyes behind his oval spectacles.

-It was not the Raikage as they knew him. He had indefinitely changed, into something ominous, ghostly, spiritual. His body color were only hues of light blue, and features, striking in his physical form, were absent from his spirit. Any scar, no matter how large that had been burned or slashed into his skin were gone. Not only this, but his Chakra system could be spotted through his ghostly clothing, a humble Kimono that whisked around his ankles gently. Out of all of this, the most noticeable thing on his body was the small yin yang centered on his forehead, half white, the other half light blue.

-He walked slightly above the wilting grass, a cup of tea in his hands, perhaps warming them. He walked with grace, and without his slight limp. He stood strait up, his shoulders proudly back not slightly hunched like normal. He looked as if this was his first day alive, not a scratch nor injury harming his body. Even the way he carried his emotions had changed. His usually lonely and slightly sad eyes were full of cheer and pride now, he had been unharmed, he had lived, he had not won, but lived to fight another day.

-"It's merely and empty shell for now." he continued, taking one last sip of tea before the cup in his hands evaporated into thin air, whisking away into some unknown land.

-"This one however is transparent, lacking substance."

-He smiled warmly, looking to the two of the for a moment before he nodded.

-"An odd place for a reunion...yet...fitting somehow. Perhaps we could vacation here one day." he joked, cupping his hands behind he back.

Fei's chuckle sent a shiver through her spine as slowly stood, sapphire eyes seeking our her beloved for comfort at the strange voice that seemed to come from everywhere, her instincts telling her something truly supernatural was happening here.

"Kind of you Omoi, but futile."

Her eyes sought out her old Captain, coming to a rest upon the ethereal figure as her steps drew her to Otoha's side, her hand finding his and lacing their fingers together.

Captain Long looked... cheerful. Relaxed. Proud.

"It's merely and empty shell for now. This one however is transparent, lacking substance."

The Captain's warm smile and her beloved's comforting presence beside her let her relax ever so slightly, despite the whispers at the edge of her hearing constantly setting her on edge.

"An odd place for a reunion...yet...fitting somehow. Perhaps we could vacation here one day."

Even though it was a joke, Omoi promptly shook her head.

"No way in hell."

A low growl in her throat as she glanced around at the well, the fiery sword, the rune-covered stone, the paths, the chains--oh how she hoped her beloved had recovered enough from his jounin exam--and the large crosses.... At any moment, it could all attack them. At any moment, they could be swallowed by the darkness that had already tried to kill her before, the darkness that might steal her light from her, the darkness that--

A gentle squeeze of her hand brought her back to the present, and she could sense her beloved's concern at the brief upwelling of anxiety and fear she had felt. Sapphire eyes met gold for a moment before she nodded, a slow exhale steadying her nerves before she looked back to her Captain.

"Captain, this place, this... dimension. It's already claimed the lives of comrades, and nearly took my own the last time Otoha and I were here. It may sound like I'm worrying too much, but this entire dimension, the ground, the rocks, that sword over there, anything and everything could start attacking us at any given moment." She paused, and her eyes softened, a flicker of warmth within as she continued, "It's good to see you again, Captain, and if the situation were any different, I'd be happy to sit back and catch you up on everything that's happened, but...." she trailed off, expression turning grim. Even if she didn't explain further, their surroundings would probably speak for themselves soon enough. As long as they didn't do anything, though, make any changes... perhaps it would leave them alone for a while. Omoi refused to trust that guess, though.

"We need to get out of here," Otoha stated softly, summing up Omoi's somewhat long-winded explanation with a short statement. "While I am grateful that this place has reunited the three of us, that's not enough good to make up for everything else that's happened here."

Freeing his hand from Omoi's, the newly appointed Commander approached the bonfire, a gloved hand reaching out to tightly grasp the battered blade's hilt. With a grunt of effort, odd given his particular gifts as far as physical strength were concerned, he tore the weapon free of the soil below. A skeleton came with the blade, its bony hand tightly grasping the last foot of metal as if it were a lifeline. His foot lashing out, Otoha dispatched the remains, bone reduced to dust in the wind. When freed from the ground, the flames receded, reduced to a faint glow flickering from within the folds of the almost helix-like twist of the blade. Resting the large sword on his shoulder with a one handed grip, he glanced back towards his companions.

"We go up," he stated, pointing towards the metal box tightly affixed to the massive chains scaling the cliffside. "We go forward," with point towards the graveyard. "Or we go down." A gesture towards the left, and the path twisting down towards somewhere below. Concerned eyes found their way back towards the Raikage, a frown crossing his face; he'd seen these lands produce strange enough things in their last visit, everything from man-eating furniture to statues soaked in-

He shuddered a bit at that thought, forcing the thought aside. His free hand produced a cigarette, a bit of raiton focused to a burning focus serving to light it. If he couldn't even trust that their surroundings weren't swarming with enemies, or worse, enemies themselves, how was he to believe that the apparition of the Raikage wasn't just another twisted joke conjured up by this realm of nightmares?

Spoiler:
The high ground leads to a church.
The middle path leads to a graveyard.
The low ground leads to an underground city.

All paths will eventually join up in the same location, although the direction the thread will take depends on the path, or paths, taken.

-It was certainly not what Fei had been expecting, not in the least, the reaction he was getting from the both of them was a little less than ecstatic. Their was fear in his students eyes, and from the look of things, this world that he had arrived in, was something much more than he expected. Fear however, was not something he could feel in this form. He was at peace, in complete harmony with this universe. Perhaps there would be time for him to explain himself later, but for now, he would follow along with them, and do what he could to coax them forward. He was not sure that he would be useless in this place, he always knew that it was impossible to know the outcome of every situation, however, he had been unable to interact with the physical world thus far. Perhaps this was some place between the spiritual world and the physical, he didn't know. He had been watching the two of them, along with so many others in his time away, never needing to rest or sleep. He had watched carefully, and tried so many times to tuck his friends and family in at night, and even once attempted to bring them a glass of water when they had been forced awake by their troubles and nightmares.

-"Very well Otoha." began Fei, knowing somewhere that he sensed unrest and disbelief in his tone.

-Fei took a moment to examine the paths, finding that he was instantly biased to the situation. Perhaps in his spiritual form, he had found some sort of peace of rest that one could find in a graveyard. Though the living body usually regarded a cemetery with fear and uneasiness, the concept of reflecting on death was something that Fei had pondered on for many months now. He was instantly drawn to it, and he took a few strides towards it, tilting his head to the side much like a curious animal.

-"I propose forward." he said quietly, looking over his shoulder at the two with a comforting smile.

-He almost laughed as he looked back, but found that the emotion simply wasn't right. He kept his cool had, showing his respect to the dead.

-"After all...I've searched the heavens for a long time..."

-The comment was mysterious, oddly placed for his reasoning's for wanting to venture into a graveyard. Yet it was filled with exasperation, not sorrow, as if from a child who had been seeking a four leaf clover.

-"Have you tried Menthol cigarets yet Otoha? There to die for." said Fei bluntly, almost as if he were changing the topic.

"Don't encourage him," she muttered, eyes still watching the spot where her beloved had removed the sword, searching for something that would attack them.

In this hellhole, a cigarette or two to soothe her dear partner's nerves would be allowed.

A kunai appeared in her hand and she twirled it absently, seeking to dispell the nervous energy that was building up in the human-formed dragoness the longer that they stayed still.

A few muttered words in her native language--a variety of carefully selected curses and descriptors of the situation, no doubt--and she took a slow breath, focusing on Otoha's scent and listening closely to his steady heartbeat and breathing beside her. She would be okay... she would be okay just as long as her fears didn't rear up to meet her in person in his maddening place.

"Forward's probably just as bad as any other direction, so might as well...."

Sapphire eyes finally turned from the former bonfire to her beloved. She would move as soon as he did, and no sooner. He was the only one in this place that she truly trusted; for all she knew, their old Captain might be just another one of this dimension's tricks... and that thought was terribly unsettling.

"The dead man wants to head for the graveyard.. fitting."

Otoha laughed softly, his free hand returning the cigarette to his lips. Taking the lead, he followed the short path around the wall, making his way into the graveyard. As the party drew closer, the area was revealed. Waist high graves stretched until the horizon, where the raised ground abruptly came to a halt as it had by the bonfire, likely leading to a similarly impressive fall. A break in the graves about three-fourths of the way across revealed a depression in the ground, a series of stone steps lit with torches leading below ground. From their current position, it would be the only visible means of continuing onward without turning back and returning to the bonfire. Spaced evenly through the graves, massive markers in the shapes of crosses and blades stretched an easy three meters into the air, casting shadows across the landscape and blocking easy viewing through what would clearly be akin to a maze, once they actually entered. From deeper within the graveyard, the sounds of rattling bones could be heard, and the sounds of steel scraping across stone.

"The dead don't even have the sense to stay dead in this place... and they sound a bit more corporeal than Fei."
