The swamp that they were in was not without its own perils, as the pair of dueling warriors would soon find out. Nicknamed "The Living Forest" in the demon country because of the trees that seem to come alive, it was indeed a place of death. Stories circulated around the various towns and villages that moaning trees consumed he flesh of those who dared walk through it, and that those who died in the swamp, their poor souls became a part of the swamp for all eternity. Whether or not this was true or not, only the very few survivors knew of, and even their tales became the stuff of myth and legend. Still, Sonja and Jikan were there, and the swamp was watching.
As Sonja landed she watched the path of her claw blades as they sought out Jikan. She wasn't the type to idly sit by and watch though, and pulsed the chakra in her hand, causing the hardened blood on her hand to reform into claws again. Her other hand drew a kunai from the holster on her clawed arm, and threw it towards Jikan. Of course there was no tag trailing it, as she was not a shinobi, but instead a length of razor edged wire. Though thin, the wire was filled with protrusions that would slice anything that rubbed against them. The downside of the wire was that it reduced the range of her kunai, but with her lack of fear towards injury, she was able to use it in new and unexpected ways.
As her kunai flew, another came from the now grounded Jikan, passing hers and flying straight at Sonja. They obviously had the same idea, and the fast moving projectile caused her to flinch and duck off to the left. She quickly rolled off to the side, ducking behind a tree as two more kunai came flying, one to the direction she had dodged. It hit the tree, which in an astounding and downright scary display of demonry moaned out loud.
"Holy [badword]!", Sonja screamed as she rolled back, a face appearing on the tree and clamping down on what once was her back. The branches began to sway and wave, the tree tasting the blood that had just managed to seep into the ground and on its bark, exciting not only that tree, but all the nearby trees in the swamp. Not until just then had she noticed the light fog that had gently crept over the ground they had been standing on. It was thin, barely noticeable, but it had just began to thicken, the gasses from the outer swamp beginning to move inwards.
In her rush to dodge, she had forgotten about her wired kunai, and had probably thrown off its trajectory tremendously with her movements. Still, the other end of the wire was attached to her arm, And so thinking on the fly, she placed the wire in her clawed hand, and pulsed the chakra, causing it to liquefy again, and with a single seal, she commanded it to flow down the wire, creeping to whatever location the kunai had found itself.
Looking up at the tree again, it had become silent, but the face was still there, staring at her with its hollow eyes. And then it growled at her, sending a chill down her spine, a feeling she hadn't felt in ages.
