- it is unknown where the defune arose. it is said that they have always existed; at least since the dawn of ninja, that is. since the advent of recorded history however, their history is more clear. living scattered around the islands of mizu no kuni. of the course of the clan wars, they were nearly eliminated until the recontrolling of kirigakure by Momochi Zabuza. This was an incredibly ironic happening, because the leader of the slan. Defune Jiyuu, was in actuality the the Shodai Mizukage. Affectionately called simply "Shodai" by his people, his reluctance to use his kekke genkai led many to disregard or forget the fact that he belonged to the Defune clan. He died in self sacrifice in a legendary battle ages ago, and with no true successor to the throne, the country was launched into a civil war for a decade before a true Mizukage was chosen as his successor. He is buried in a shrine located in part of the country no longer inhabited. Strangely, the tiny island it was on was totally protected by the Funbo Enkon and Rokubi attacks. However, when Momochi Zabuza took control, this piece of history was forgotten and the Defune were hunted almost in spite of this. Since then and the 3 subsequent Mizukage's followed by Kirigakure's destruction, the clan was resurfaced. A splinter faction went into hiding during the clan wars and thrived, only recently re-emerging into the world.
Perhaps paranoid, they were worried and did not feel safe without the protection of a village. The power of their kekke genkai in ages past attracted all manner of attention, and so they sought a village to protect them. Choosing Kasai, they in exchange for housing and protection, have promised their services to the Kage no matter what they be. A splinter section of the clan is highly angry with this unconditional servitude and plans to defect. Unknown at large, it is likely they will do so peacefully.
- kekke genkai
- the Defune's kekkei genkai is present in two forms; an innate portion [dojutsu] and a trained portion [a fighting style] based upon what element they are given at birth.
- Kasho - Perfect Realm
- Meikyougan - Mirror Eye
The Meikyougan can be upgraded further through unknown means.
- Kanryou Meikyougan - Perfect Mirror Eye
Activating any chakra element past a single element cannot be done without this level of dojutsu; and because of that, it is the general opinion that Defune clan members cannot do so as this perfect form of the dojutsu is considered a myth.
The Defune also possess a series of trained (read: not inherited) series of fighting styles, each one developed and suited towards a specific element, Oni : Earth, Kappa : Water, Tengu : Wind, Kitsune : Fire, and Dragon : Lightning.
