"It must be done!"
"Please! There is still time!"
"Get out of my way! He is a monster! A demon! It has been ordered and it must be done for the good of the world!"
"What am I?"

Oni's eyes tightened as he exhaled deeply. Shining beads of sweat rolled down his face and off his chin. Small splashes and labored breathing echoed through the room. His sat with his head hung, legs crossed, and his hands laid interwoven in his lap. These visions plagued Oni regularly. There would no be rest for the wicked; tonight this inn will house the demons of a clan's failure.

"Kiela. We won't let them harm our child. He isn't the prophesied one."
"I pray that you are right my love."
Oni's parents held each other as they talked of matters which would scare any parent. Have they birthed evil incarnate? Would they be forced to give up their child whether he was or wasn't? Questions that reduced them both to tears. Just then, a young Oni came running up, "Mommy, Mommy! The other kids called me Oni, what does that mean?" he asked with the most puzzled look.
"That... Is your name. That is the beautiful name we gave you, our beautiful son," she said as she forced a smile. Tears streamed down her face. Both she and her husband, Koroky, were not permitted to name their child, since he was not to live long enough for it to matter. Kiela had managed to protect him up until now, but with every passing day she feared that he would be taken from her.
"Don't cry Mommy. Maybe they'll let me play with them tomorrow." he said with a beaming smile. Oni knew no sadness, since he had never been taught that he deserved better. In order to keep him alive, he had been taught to endure everything with a smile.
"That's right son... There's always tomorrow."

A faint smile stretched across Oni's face as he had finally relaxed. The memories of his parents were the only good part of his childhood. They tried so hard to protect him. The sweat had stopped, and he felt momentary peace. However, he would never find true peace; the Kazura clan made sure of that.
