Metals were a rare commodity in the Wind Country and those who sought them out would be willing to fork up a fine price. Ayatsuri was such an individual, seeking those lower elements on the periodic table for his craft as a puppeteer. Though now he found himself with a group who wanted to make a deal to purchase the metals he had recently obtained from a trusted vendor a ways away from Suna. Well... perhaps 'purchase' wasn't the correct word for their method of transaction.

"Just give us the goods and maybe we'll letcha go easy."

"What? No, I--" Ayatsuri took a step away from the lightly armored thugs as sand particles sprayed away from his sliding heel. A hand clung to his beige tunic as he pushed it against his stomach. "I'm the greatest detective in the Wind Country! You would do well to find your copper and palladium elsewhere... and legally!"

There were four highwaymen, and in all honesty, they had no idea poor Ayatsuri had any metal on them. The goal had just been to grab the next guy around the corner so they could test their new "recruit."

The biggest guy, apparently the leader, nudged Haruka in the center of her shoulder blades.

"Go on princess. Show us what you got."

The girl with blonde hair and ocean-green eyes had begun her handsign sequence before she'd even been told to move. Her approach was swift and low, her hands cradling a bundle of swirling blue and white energy. When she was directly in front of Ayatsuri, she let the technique roll out of her palms and let the energy work in its defined motion.

The Ice Technique unleashed three long pointed fingers of ice up from the ground and in a diagonal thrust above Ayatsuri, effectively putting him beneath an angled shelf of ice. Haruka was up along the center finger immediately, snarling at the meltwater already beginning to form (damned desert...) and hooked her toes at the tip of the ice spire.

She swung down, swiping a fist at the boy's head.

[OOC: Ack, that was hard! But fun, I think I like this.]

"Did you hear me?!" Ayatsuri reiterated, leaning into his words as his soft brown eyes fell onto the approaching combatant. On other occasions the detective usually booked it to avoid needless violence, able to outrun the chakra devoid bandits and even the occasional rogue shinobi.

Ayatsuri's instincts drove him to perform hand seals to pick from his slew of earthen techniques, majority being defensive. A wall of crumbly earth emerged from beneath the sand at similar angle to Haruka's frozen shelf in hopes to avoid a follow attack. A few pieces of the poor-quality (stupid desert...) wall fell onto Ayatsuri before he took a leap backwards.

Throwing his hand into his robe, the puppeteer removed a scroll and unfurled it with a flick of his wrist. A blue glow and poof of smoke heralded the appearance of a cloaked wooden figure about the size of his opponent. Joints clacked and gears tinked as Ayatsuri tossed the scroll to the ground and connected strings to the puppet. "We don't have to do this!"

"Maybe you don't. But life isn't as straight-up-and-down simple for the rest of us."

She didn't care about the philosophical discussion on thievery vs. privilege, Haruka just needed more time. As if flinging ice around in the desert wasn't hard enough, puppets were a nightmare. She thought through the advice her old sensei had once drilled into her: puppets were a weapon, not an opponent. The only problem here was to figure out how this particular puppet worked, then she could find her way around it.

Distraction, dodging...risky business, both of those.

Sliding off the ice structure that was now held up by Atsayuri's lumpy earth shelter, she kept her back to it and plucked out four kunai. She threw them in a standard spread, a diagonal pattern that would run from his hip to his shoulder, if he did nothing to intercept them. Then he leaned her weight on her toes, and waited.

Ayatsuri sighed as the ice princess spoke, he had seen too many people affected by the decaying state of the Wind Country. It was times like this he wondered if he was even making a difference or if there was any point in the work he did.

Holding his ground, the puppeteer tugged at his cloaked marionette as it slid to his position. It reached within its cloaked to remove a sword from its holster as it deflected the few kunai that aimed to harm its master. The hood fell from the samurai puppet's face, revealing dirty hair and soft brown glassy eyes that seemed... too lifelike.

The samurai flew forward to Haruka's position, blade brought back in one hand as the other hand stuck out as if to grab the girl's throat. A pulse of chakra from Ayatsuri acted as the catalyst to fuel the puppet, its arm briefly rattling with energy before attempting to jab the blade into one of Haruka's arms. Killing was not on Ayatsuri's agenda.

"Ack!"

It was just too lifelike and eerie and it was that impulsive fear that had her dropping to the ground and scurrying away - a motion that had saved her arm. Instinct guided her immediate reaction, which was to hurl a blast of ice at the puppet, coating it's torso a thin, thin layer. Then she kicked backward into a roll and put more distance between them.

A whole samurai, with lifelike motions. Was she out of her league?

Sensei had always said to end things quickly, so she would try. Assuming that her thin ice grasp around the puppet would hold, she made a circular run, aiming for Ayatsuri's left hand flank. Again she formed handsigns, this time aiming her ice attack for his feet, hoping to pin him in place.

"Argh, come on!" Ayatsuri grunted in frustration, the tethered samurai moving with much delay due to the frost inhibiting his innards. The man's fingers commanded his bound swordsman to attack its own body in order to shave away the ice coating.

As the girl approached Ayatsuri's left side he reached within his cloak to remove a long barreled revolver with a similar crimson and brown paint job to the samurai's clothing. He was a puppeteer, a weapons crafter, a tactician-- not a brawler!

Rather than fire a poorly aimed shot Ayatsuri attempted to leap back, only to suddenly jerk to the ground as Princess tagged one of his feet to the desert floor. He bore his teeth at the brutal chill, but he decided to stand his ground rather than attempt to remove the icy casing.

Aiming quickly with his left hand at the young girl, he fired off a smokey shot at her before slapping his commanding hand against the cylinder to rotate it into prepping the next bullet.
