Errand girl

The many towns and cities tucked in the crevices of the world, uncontrolled by any formal power. Some are friendly. Others, not so much.

Tsubaki let out a silent sigh of relief after it was explained that they were approaching the very distention each had set out for. She hadn't been able to tell what it was that caused Chijo to take off so suddenly. Her insects, however, didn't seem to be stirring inside her anymore than normal, so she at least wasn't too far on edge. The only thing that made her worry a little was that she didn't know how far dogs could smell, as it was apparent to her that it was a scent the boxer was following given how it had been able to sniff her out of the trees earlier. Tsubaki tried to smile when Kohaku looked back. She realized this was a meaningless gesture since her mouth was covered by her mask, so instead she just gave an affirmative nod.

Being further back allowed Tsubaki to stop more suddenly than Kohaku. Though she couldn't scream out "oh no" as she saw the Inuzuka fall forward the bug tamer's body reacted in much the same way. Tsubaki's open palm stretched forward though she was too far back to grab ahold of Kohaku herself. Instead, two batches of insects quickly flew out of her sleeve just before her hand pulled back to perform a string of hand-signs. Mushi Rifuto no Jutsu [Insect Uplift Technique] The dispatched insects quickly gathered around either of Kohoku's outstretched arms and began to rapidly spin in a circular flightpath. The black bracelets of bugs prevented the falling woman from tumbling further as they had the same uplifting tug that there would be had two people grabbed ahold of Kohaku's wrist.

Once she regained her footing the beetles would snake away back to Tsubaki to disappear once more underneath the woman's white cloak. The battalions were joined by the scouting parties that had been sent out earlier. Though the beetles had found signs of chakra networks as they had been ordered to, those signs were indicators only of the village that the odd group stood on the outskirts of. Shocked by the sight that Tsubaki had doubted she'd ever see, the stunned girl raised an outstretched finger to point at the village now visible through what little remained of the thinned out forest surrounding it.

Being caught by Tsubaki's bugs caught Kohaku off guard possibly more than tripping over her own ninken. With the help of the bugs, Kohaku was able to regain her footing. "Thanks," she smiled at the small girl. Her eyes widen and looked the direction that Tsubaki was pointing. "Oh, yea, the village. Nearly there!" she laughed some. "It's extremely close now. But now I will have to restock on supplies before heading back to Konoha." She just ended up rambling about supplies her mother sent her out for.

Kohaku turned to apologize to Chijo and looked her over to make sure that her boxer was unharmed. After seeing no injuries, she sighed with relief and patted Chijo's head. "Why'd you want to visit the village, just out of curiousity." She glanced over to Tsubaki.

Tsubaki gave a polite bow in place of being able to say, "You're welcome". Her beetles disappeared back beneath her cloak as quickly as they had emerged from it. The small insects never burrowed back beneath her skin in any visible location, not that the extremely modest Tsubaki had much in the way of exposed skin.

Tsubaki answered Kohaku's question as she started calmly walking towards the close by village. The honest truth of it was that she had not been searching for this village in particular, but just any village she could come upon. She had absolutely no understanding of the landscape outside of the orphanage she grew up in, so she had experienced little luck in traveling between settlements since setting out on the open road. However, for as restricted as she was in her communication skills, there was not way for Tsubaki to explain all of this. Instead, the bug tamer settled for a simpler response. First, she pantomimed a person intensely looking for something by holding two fingers up to point towards her eyes before placing that hand like a visor on her forehead and moving her gaze from side to side. Next, this move was followed by her outstretched hand holding up four finger once more until finally she pointed straight towards herself.

Looking 4 myself.

Tsubaki shook both her head and her hands to try and correct how she just realized what she had mimed might be interpreted as. She was far from being on any kind of existential journey of self-discovery. She tried to clarify what she meant by picking back up by holding up her four fingers again before proceeding to hold up her open palm, the air around which became covered with the beetles emerging out of her body. With an outstretched finger she began writing in the air again to better answer the posed question.

Kohaku watched Tsubaki play a mini-game of charades, but she knew that she wouldn't have to guess what she was trying to say. It was pretty obvious. Looking for herself... Kohaku tilted her head, questioning if that was correct. Then she nodded as Tsubaki shook her head and wrote out Aburame with her bugs. "So you're looking for the Aburame clan?" The Inuzuka asked. She has to remember that most of her questions should consist of mostly yes or no questions. It must be chakra-consuming to have the bugs trace along the chakra lines.

Kohaku leered over to Chijo who was sitting beside her panting. The girl then looked back at Tsubaki and smiled some, "You know, the Aburame clan, if I remember my history correctly, originated out of the Hidden Leaf," she paused remembering her older brother teaching her about a generation that was supposed to change the world. Part of what she remember was a team with an Aburame and an Inuzuka paired together.

"Perhaps you might find some of them back in the desolate village..." Her voice started off confident but then it started to fade. She was unsure of any clan standings in the village because of the war zones. All she knew that her family was moved off of the Inuzuka compound and had to take refuge just outside the old Village boundaries. It was recognizable that the area was infested with Inuzuka's though. Since she lived with both sets of grandparents, her aunt, her parents, and her siblings, and that doesn't even include everyone's ninken.

Tsubaki gave two quick nods in conformation. She had been searching for her fellow 'clansmen' for quite some time now, but had little luck in doing so. It seemed to Tsubaki that the Aburame were as good as hiding in the forest as were the bugs that lived inside them, but the major contributor to why her search had been so daunting was her massive lack of navigational skills.

The bug tamer gave another short nod at the mention of the Aburame being from the Village Hidden in the Leaves. She too had been told as much, but as she was not a shinobi and had never left the temple where the monks had raised her she had little avail at finding a hidden village, especially one hidden in the leaves that were so plentiful in the forest. It should be simple, really. Though they were called hidden villages the mainstays of shinobi serve as epicenters of the countries they were allied to. Follow a trade route and it would undoubtedly cross paths with the village that should be obvious from sight alone. However, Tsubaki hadn't been handling her mission in such a systematic manner. Her approach had been more like ping-ponging back and forth with the hope of happening upon her distention.

A curious concern crossed her face at the mention of a 'desolate village'. She didn't quite know what Kohaku meant by this, but she was also unaware of the political instability that the rest of the country seemed consumed by. Hard to believe, but she didn't have many people to talk to. In hopes of resolving her confusion Tsubaki etched a single symbol in the air, which her bugs soon obliged.
