Operation Atropine

[ \Sakura Hiroba | Kamiza | Yomi/ ]
The capital city of Raikou no Kuni, nestled between mountain peaks in the center of the country. Its altitude and location lead to common snowfall, though it is not necessarily cold throughout the year, clear days often leading to be as warm as summer. At the southern end of this star-shaped city lies a great stone bridge spanning a large lake, connecting to the road back down to the rest of the world. The home of both the Daimyo and Kamiza, the Onigami Compounds.

"Rouge, come in. You alright?"

The voice was distant, and quiet; after a moment he recognized it to belong to Omoi. Upon opening his eyes, he thought himself blind for a moment, before realizing that the blast had forced his BTM to adjust to the incoming light, almost completely blacking out. Exhaling slowly despite the pain coursing through both head and body, he sent a soft flow of chakra into the lenses, adjusting them until he could see once more. For a moment more, he remained silent, reviewing exactly how he had ended up in so much pain in the first place.

---

"GET AWAY FROM HIM!"

Omoi's warning was unexpected, and for a moment, he hesitated. Rather than escape, he instead turned towards the sound of her voice, thinking that perhaps she and Sarin were under attack, only to see the two of them sink into the ground below; phasing at work. Swearing under his breath, he sent a jolt of raiton chakra towards his legs, vanished, and reappeared an instant later, caught by the explosion after all.

---

Grunting with annoyance and pain, Otoha reached up and keyed open a com-line.

"Alright? Yeah, sure. Why not. I'm fine."

Closing the line, he groaned with pain before forcing his body into a sitting position to assess the damage. Coat, charred and torn; he felt a great deal of annoyance over this, as despite being his favorite bit of clothing, they always got destroyed in battle. The BST-Suit had managed to hold back most of the damage the explosion would have put upon his body, but a quick glance towards his aching side revealed a particurally sharp slab of rock which had, when propelled by the burst, managed to punch clear through the suit, and into the flesh beneath.

"F.uck, really? Haven't been through enough? Course not."

You'd think after so many times, it would no longer bother him, but the churning sensation in his gut still flipped as Omoi smashed into him, tugging him beneath the ground as a deafening roar crashed against his ears. The inertia of her body suddenly yanking him down caused his stomach to jerk up into his throat, and the shock of what had occured fogged his mind.

As time cleared the area, and Riku was resurfaced, his mind was just now finishing the processing of his information. "He's good. And he's gone. No way can we track him. Smart enough to dupe my Kikaichuu onto a clone, and with the rainfall, a scent will be terrible to find. We can't take him in a fight... Not now at least. We need to retreat. The mission is complete, and Otoha, you're in no condition for combat."

Nursing a couple fresh bruises from his savior's mighty speed and strength, Riku shut down the emotional portions of his mind. Fear had no place here, not now. If they were to survive, logic would be their guide, and logic dictated that they quit while ahead.

"Alright? Yeah, sure. Why not. I'm fine."

...he'd been injured. Hn.

Sapphire eyes caught sight of movement near the crater--a flow of Souton through her filters and she certified who it was by scent--and Wiltshire ran over to her injured comrade, dropping down on one knee beside him and putting one hand on his shoulder and the other on the rock. A flow of chakra into the shrapnel, and she phased it right out of Otoha-kun's body, tossing it to the side and focusing in on his injury....

She took a slow breath, placing her palm against the open wound and phasing her scales through her suit, literally patching her patient up as she partially fused the scales with his flesh, doing the best she could to stop any internal bleeding or further bloodloss.... "...no, the mission isn't complete. We're also to neutralize any and all threats in the area, remember? And when your attack, Sarin, hit him, he bled. That was real blood. That was his real body. In short, he used a substitution between the time he was injured and the time Rouge slapped the IRS-Seal on him. He's injured. Do you know how many times I've followed the scent of blood in rain like this and found some prey? But you're right. Rouge is in no condition for combat." Wiltshire slipped her friend's arm over her shoulder, carefully helping him to his feet. "Next time I say 'get away', don't hesitate, alright?" She smiled beneath her mask, helping Otoha-kun over to Riku-san before she turned her head to look at the Aburame. "Take him, and the hostages, and head back to Kumo. I'll finish the clean-up here and see you both back at the village." And then she'd released Otoha-kun, trusting him to either stand on his own or Riku-san to catch him, and she was off like a bullet, eyes closed as she followed the faint scent of blood into the forest, focusing purely on scent, sound, and instinct.

She wasn't about to let that asshole get away. Not after his little shock-therapy and trying to blow herself and her friends up.

She'd find him!

"Like hell."

Shrugging off Sarin's attempt at assistance, Otoha stood on his own too feet, propping himself up with a blade in a deep black sheathe which rather suddenly appeared in his right hand.

"We can't afford to retreat and let one of them get away. Likewise, there's no way in hell we're leaving you out here by yourself, Omoi. You were there for the Captain's initial training, at the top of the cliff," he added as an afterthought, his voice dropping. "Never give up. And never leave a man behind."

Exhaling slowly, Otoha drew the white blade from its dark sheathe, while a mass of darkness spread across his flesh; a set of dark armor formed around his body, fairly demonic in appearance. As long as he was wearing it, the chances of another simple rock hurting him weren't likely, in addition to it supporting his body externally, wound or no wound.

"We'll go back to Kumogakure when the mission is complete, or we won't go back at all. If you wish to retreat, fell free... but don't expect a hero's welcome to be waiting for you when you pass through those gates."
Spoiler:
Name: Blade Armor
Rank: C-A
Range: Supplementary
Jutsu Type: Kekkei Genkai
Elemental Affinity: None
Clan: Karas

Description:
When in this form, the user's armor is thinned significantly, almost by half; this gives it the appearance of a very light, although still solid armor. It has the consistency and look of black leather, although it is still clearly composed of an otherworldly metal, and is several times stronger than leather. Due to the armor's thinning, mobility is increased, making this the current fastest form for a Karas short of an actual transit based technique. The mass that is released by thinning the armor is kept on "standby", staying within the chakra pool granted by Yurine for summoning the armor. It can be relocated back onto the user's armor in the form of small blades which sprout up wherever the user wishes on the armor. These blades can be up to a hundred in number, but they would be very small, less than that of a single prong from a kunai. These blades can in turn themselves be sacrificed; less blades means those that remain are larger in size. Alternatively, the user can opt to avoid all blade use in general, instead focusing the chakra to raise their physical abilities once more.

Riku bowed his head. Better not to irk his teammates any further. It wasn't a matter of cowardice that led to his judgment, or at least, he didn't think that was his motivation. He was trying to save them. Otoha was in no condition for combat, and despite her great physical and hunting prowess, there was no way Omoi could stand up against an opponent of this strength with only Riku backing her up. This was not going to end well. Sighing, he followed after the other two, after sending a great cloud of Kikaichuu to surround their prisoners. The Kikaichuu could keep them subdued without chakra, no need to worry about them escaping at least.

"We're BOLT, there is no hero's welcome for any of us." And they were off. His Kikaichuu wouldn't do much good in tracking him now, not without one on him to relay the pheromones back to Riku. So, he was stuck trailing behind in the wake of his two stronger compatriots, entirely useless. That was nothing new though. Pushing to keep up with the faster trackers, the buildup of lactic acid in his thighs told him he was moving at top pace. Omoi was right, it had been real blood, which meant a real person, which meant he couldn't be to far off. And with a wound, his stench would be clear as day to Omoi. They would follow they would fight, and there was only way all three would make it home. They'd kill him.

Shutting his mind down Riku drew a kunai. He wrapped the handle methodically, carefully. At final count, five bomb tags were tightly wound. Enough to level a small building, and he'd plant it in this scumbag's heart.

Chakra flowed with each step as she ran, planting her own surprise attack and defense when she found the enemy.

"Like hell. We can't afford to retreat and let one of them get away. Likewise, there's no way in hell we're leaving you out here by yourself, Omoi. You were there for the Captain's initial training, at the top of the cliff. Never give up. And never leave a man behind."

Stubborn.... But despite her thoughts, a smile had graced her lips. Otoha-kun would have her back.

She'd just have to make sure that his remained untouched.

"We'll go back to Kumogakure when the mission is complete, or we won't go back at all. If you wish to retreat, fell free... but don't expect a hero's welcome to be waiting for you when you pass through those gates."

"We're BOLT, there is no hero's welcome for any of us."

"Stop being so pessimistic, Sarin. We in BOLT, as well as the higher-ups, will know what we've done, even if the majority of the village doesn't. We may not get a hero's welcome, but... our comrades will still be proud. That's more than enough."

She whipped through the rain, dodging around trees and conserving what chakra she could as she continued planting her trap, steadily building a network just a few inches under the ground....

There!

She drew a kunai and launched it into the brush, a distinct metallic clang ringing out yet again as she stopped with a low growl.

"There you are."

"You again, girlie? I thought you learned your lesson last time." He slowly rose from his hiding place, gazing upon her as if a mere insect.

Omoi grinned behind the BTM. "Sorry, I didn't go at you full on last time. Let's see how you handle me this time, hm?" And she launched at him, feinting to the side just a foot away as she withdrew an explosive note, a flow of chakra stiffening the paper before she threw it at him and leapt back, forming the handsign and activating the explosive note!

A few easy acrobatics, somersaults, and a roll sent her away from the explosion's epicenter, and Wiltshire was up and running in a circular fashion around her target, certain that he was still alive.

And indeed he was, Wiltshire ducking into a roll as a bolt of electricity shot through the area where her torso had been a mere moment before, the kunoichi smoothly getting back to her feet and continuing her run without once losing speed.

"That you're best shot? Ha!" Omoi grinned fiercely as she continued evading her opponent's attacks, the genin setting up for the big finale while buying her comrades time to get to her position and join in the brawl.

"I think I can pin his movements, if not kill him right out," Otoha murmured quietly over the com line, twisting his katana about so he held the hilt in a reverse grip, with the tip of the blade lightly pressing into the ground below. "If you two can buy me enough time to set up a clear shot... he should be weakened enough for one of you to go in and finish the job."

In an unexpected motion, he raised the blade as if to plunge it through his own body, placing the tip of the weapon so that it lightly scraped against the armor coating his chest. As he pushed, however, the armor seemed to absorb the weapon, letting it pass harmlessly through. When the entire weapon had vanished, Otoha extended his right arm, while grasping his forearm with his left hand to hold it steady. The armor around his arm began to split down the center, reforming into a sort of cannon-like firing mechanism, with the blade located at the heart of the structure. If he could get a shot, the blade should be more than enough to penetrate metal armor, and the ranged nature of the attack would take care of the limited mobility presented by his injury.

Riku was preparing his own strategy as well. The cloud of insect that he had been releasing started to coalesce, forming into one large, human shape. A clone made of the Kikaichuu, formed into his likeness. Unlike Omoi, who was using her acrobatics to evade, this new Riku simply plunged in, while the other sunk beneath the ground. His opponent might be clever, but he wasn't telepathic. Riku would sneak from below. The clone dove in, seeking for a full body tackle. It didn't really matter though. At the moment of contact, the clone would burst, showering the enemy in a wave of chakra draining insects. Meanwhile, Riku would catch him from below ground, opening him up for that one fatal strike from Otoha-san.

It was a good plan, hopefully. "I'm attacking from below. I'm ready." And with that, the ground broke free from around his hands, and they shot up, seeking metal legs to hold onto, to free his teammates up for that one final shot. It was a solid plan, but it wouldn't work, not with an opponent this skilled.

"I think I can pin his movements, if not kill him right out. If you two can buy me enough time to set up a clear shot... he should be weakened enough for one of you to go in and finish the job."

That would save her a good deal of chakra. Yup. Here's to hoping it'll work....

A resistance against her scales that was undoubtedly Riku-san sinking into the ground, and she opened up the network to let him through, suddenly dropping to all fours and dodging about in that fashion to maximize the amount of time that she was in contact with the ground, drawing it all together....

"Ready on my end.."

"I'm attacking from below. I'm ready."

The enemy was glaring furiously at her as he launched lightning bolt after lightning bolt, turning his attention to the Riku-clone when it got close and firing another bolt of electricity at it.

In that moment of distraction, the man's feet were locked to the ground by two thick sapphire ribbons that only curled further upwards his legs to secure him more thoroughly, two more ribbons shooting up from the ground to wrap around the man's wrists and arms and stretch them upwards as he was raised slightly into the air; no longer in contact with the ground, his body was stretched vertically to the point where his face was contorted in pain and he couldn't even attempt to struggle for escape, hands being two feet apart from each other and feet being the same, even his fingers being forcibly spread apart so that he couldn't perform handsigns. The ribbons grew spikes, and he remained silent as his face contorted further and red blood dripped from his arms and legs, thin sapphire spikes puncturing all the way through his flesh.

Omoi phased the filters and sniffed the air. Blood. This wasn't a clone. She opened up the network beneath the man to allow Riku-san a path for his attack. She remained on all fours, ready to further manipulate her scales if need be.

"That's him! I've got him restrained. Hit him now!"

Upon hearing Omoi's signal, he took a quick moment to check his aim, before firing. With a loud crack and a bright flash of chakra, the sword shot free of the mechanism on his arm, flying straight and true across the distance between his position and that of his target. Not trusting himself to try and account for the weapon's drop as it flew through the air, he had forgone trying for a headshot; rather than aiming into the air above the target's head and letting the weapon lower itself as it flew, he had instead aimed directly for the man's skull, assuming that physics would take care of the rest, lowering the blade into the man's body.

True to his predictions, the blade slowly lost altitude as it flew, punching easily through the metal armor just below his collarbone, until the hilt guard of the 'enchanted' blade clanged loudly against the blood soaked armor. Unable to help himself, the chuunin thrust his right arm into the air in a victory gesture, reforming the firing mechanism into standard armor.

"Direct hit!"
Spoiler:
Name: Heikishou
Rank: D
Range: Close-Far
Jutsu Type: Kekkei Genkai, Weaponry
Elemental Affinity:
Clan: Karas

Description:
When one transforms into a Karas, their possessions, both weaponry and clothing, are typically kept underneath the armor, compressed to the point where even the bulkiest clothes would be comfortable beneath the close-fitting armor. This means that accessing anything important would of course be rather difficult, be it scrolls, kunai, or something as simple as a good luck charm. While Heikishou, or Arsenal, was developed for use in battle, it technically can be used to access other objects beneath the armor, such as the aforementioned good luck charm. Both in and out of battle, the technique is fairly straightforward: The user focuses on one of their arms, willing the armor to reshape into an almost boxlike form that extends from the top of their arm((that is to say, the side opposite their palm)). Once at this stage, there are two possibilities, projectiles, or simple deposits. The user can either will the "box" open, and pull out whatever is contained inside, or can fire the object from the front, effectively using a chakra-fired gun. The objects themselves end up in the chamber through mysterious means, by being transmitted through the armor. The concept behind this movement is closely related to what allows the armor to fit over clothing without discomfort. Through proper application of this technique, the user can retreive summoning scrolls, fire kunai at their opponents, or even launch a grappling hook, provided they have the propor materials. Any projectiles carry the firing rate and flight speed/force roughly equal to that one would have when using a bow. Every projectile counts as one use of the technique, meaning that in order to use it for a fairly decent stream of attacks, one would lose a fair deal of chakra.

A few rapid moments of chaos, and then it all settled into peace again. A direct hit from a Chuunin level finishing technique. Omoi had held him bound well, leaving no room for escape. No room for life. Another life. Granted, a guilty life, but still, nothing was deserving of... this. Too much pain, too much death. Riku emerged from his earthen hiding place, the tiny insectoids immediately swarming back to their controller. He couldn't cry, not inside the mask, it would cause more logistic problems than the emotional release would be worth. So he went dead inside, numb eyes. Silently, as usual, he turned and left the other two. They could deal with the consequences of their murder on their own, he had the living to care for.

Of all those lives, only two were spared. Pitiful. The Kikaichuu left those two, and Riku hauled them up at their shoulders, leading them along in a deadly quiet. The vultures and carrion feeders would take care of the bodies. Nature would overcome the atrocities of this day with time. Plants would grow through the compound over decades, and balance would be restored, bringing life to a place that had forged death in a cannister. Riku had done what was required of him, though with regret.

The sword slid through the enemy's body, more crimson blood dripping down to the ground.

A soft rush of air in the form of a low groan was released. The first noise the man had made since his capture....

A part of her admired his sheer stubbornness and bravery.

The body was lowered into a horizontal position as Omoi walked up to the man, withdrawing Otoha-kun's crimson-stained, otherwise white blade from the man's chest as she finished lowering his body, being sure to keep him a few feet above the ground as a precaution.

A flick of the blade cleaned it of its blood, and she reversed her grip to hold it gently in a half-closed palm, exntending it out for Otoha-kun to retrieve.

Her free hand and her eyes were more focused on checking the vitals of their enemy... and, after a moment, she was content to call him dead. As a precaution, though, her hand phased through the man's body and crushed both his brain and heart to be sure he wouldn't somehow be able to stand back up again and attack. Her hand phased back out without even a drop of blood upon it.

The moment Otoha-kun took his blade back, Omoi shifted to phasing the corpse down into the earth, releasing him from her scale-bonds and absorbing all of her shed scales back into her body once she had finished, soon standing back up to look for Riku-san; he'd already run off to retrieve the prisoners.

A sniff to the air, and she allowed the BTM's filters to resolidify; there were no more enemies.

Sapphire eyes shifted to Otoha-kun as she awaited Riku-san's return. "Looks like you're going to be stuck in the hospital again. How're you holding up?"

"Looks like you're going to be stuck in the hospital again. How're you holding up?"

Accepting the blade, which felt almost as light as the air itself in his hands, Otoha laughed lightly. Returning the blade to its sheathe, he rested one end against the ground, using it as if it were a walking stick in order to prop himself up.

"First time I ended up in the hospital it was because of poison. Second time was because I died. I'm not going back there just because of a little wound like this. I've already sealed it up with my armor, so the blood's not really going anywhere. A quick stop to see a medic and I should be fine. Honestly, this barely counts as a flesh wound compared to the normal."

Almost curiously, he poked at the wound through his form-fitting armor, prompting a slight wince; it still hurt, which meant he hadn't gone into shock, although he was almost positive it should have hurt much more.

"Huh, that's odd... maybe I fried my pain receptors a bit with that Raiton attack... I'll have someone look into it."

Keying open a more ranged com-line, Otoha sent a quick message the way of the team's third member, before switching to an even father-sent signal and radioing back to Kumogakure.

"Sarin, how are you holding up? BOLT-HQ, this is Codename: Rouge reporting in with Codenames Sarin and Wiltshire. Mission completed."

The voice filtered through the tiny earbud and Riku's stomach did a backflip. How was he supposed to that? 'Oh yeah, I'm fine. I just watched a man die but aside from that, I'm great!' "Fine. Prisoners inbound." Deadpan. The com-link couldn't be blamed for the curious tone in his voice, he was numbed. Inside, he felt he could vomit at any second, but some awkward sense of shame for being so weak about it, coupled with the responsibility of the two people in front of him possibly escaping kept him from giving release to that urge. In a short amount of time, he'd be back at the area of the execution, and it wouldn't do for him to have vomit splattered about the entirety of his mask.

He arrived soon enough, and remained silent while the three stood there. They'd begin the trek back to bass soon, speed hampered by the captives who would assistance in navigating the terrain. But it would be worth it to see them alive. That was all that really mattered in the end. Life was a precious gift, and he would not be the one to destroy it.

Omoi crossed her arms over her chest with a frown. If he needed it, she'd be dragging him off to the hospital herself.... It would do if he ended up with something dangerous from that injury, such as internal bleeding or the like.

It took a great deal of self-control to keep from slapping him when he poked at his injury.

"Huh, that's odd... maybe I fried my pain receptors a bit with that Raiton attack... I'll have someone look into it."

Hard to do, but possible.... Omoi gave a soft sigh and a shake of her head. What would she do with him? He seemed to get injured on every mission, for goodness' sake....

"Sarin, how are you holding up? BOLT-HQ, this is Codename: Rouge reporting in with Codenames Sarin and Wiltshire. Mission completed."

"Fine. Prisoners inbound."

Omoi winced slightly at the tone of Riku-san's voice; he'd gone numb. A soft sigh escaped her lips. Was BOLT really the place for her gentle friend? Her gaze shifted to him as he arrived with the prisoners, sapphire eyes concerned behind her BTM.... And then she carefully retrieved one of the prisoners from him to lighten his load, giving Riku-san's shoulder a gentle squeeze of reassurance in the process, before they moved on back to Kumo.

Omoi sat heavily in one of the chairs of the debriefing room as she fiddled with her mask, not wanting to bother with wasting any more chakra by taking the easy way out... and once it was off, she tossed it lightly onto the floor and shook our her sapphire hair, gaze shifting first to the patched-up Otoha-kun then to the secluded Riku-san.

The medic who'd taken care of Otoha-kun had insisted on him staying at the Hospital and getting Raika's opinion of the injury. Omoi would escort him personally, even if she had to drag her friend....

"Otoha-kun, this is Aburame Riku-san. Riku-san, this is Nue Otoha-kun... oi, Riku-san, get over here, would you?" Concerned sapphire eyes settled on the Aburame who seemed to be keeping his distance from them, a gentle frown curving her lips. Cheering him up would be no easy task... she wasn't even sure how to cheer him up, anyway.
