Operation Atropine

[ \Sakura Hiroba | Kamiza | Yomi/ ]
The capital city of Raikou no Kuni, nestled between mountain peaks in the center of the country. Its altitude and location lead to common snowfall, though it is not necessarily cold throughout the year, clear days often leading to be as warm as summer. At the southern end of this star-shaped city lies a great stone bridge spanning a large lake, connecting to the road back down to the rest of the world. The home of both the Daimyo and Kamiza, the Onigami Compounds.

Operation Atropine

PostPosted by Fei Long » Thu Oct 07, 2010 8:07 pm

The contents of this briefing are classified on the highest level.

We have just received reports from the town of Esan, a large port located on the southern most point of Kumo’s eastern shores. From what we have gathered so far, it seems that a terrorist attack, carried out by “A World With No Boarders” killed three civilians and has put several more into the local hospital.

A World With No Boarders (AWWNB) carried out this attack eight hours ago, and investigation of the attack is still underway. We believe though, that this was simply a test for a greater attack intended for Kumo itself.

I’m sure you have already heard it from the local news, but there has been a radio message playing the same transmission over and over on all AM civilian radio frequencies. The message is as follows.

“For to long Kumo has had it’s head in the clouds. We dream for a world with no boarders where no longer corrupt politicians will bring forth greedy hands and make the powerless cower in fear. We dream of a place where we will no longer be forced to listen to what one man thinks it right. Kumo will be the first to fall, followed by Oto, followed by Konoha, and then Suna, Kiri, and so on until the world no longer is forced under the servitude of vile and disgusting human beings.

Surrender to this new world, or the clouds that you adore so will fill your lungs with the suffering of the men and women of this world. You to will feel the sadness of this world, and your own blood will destroy your pride”

Currently, the masked groups objective’s have been to shut down our international relations with villages around the world. The Raikage has openly expressed his views on this group, calling them Cowards and Criminals that the international community at large must locate and destroy.

“Pandora”, our constant source of information since the change of the Raikage‘s, has once again provided the answer for us. Once again using our old “Time Punch” code system, he/she has sent us detailed information of a chemical gas attack that will take place tomorrow mourning.

Pandora gave us a detailed report of the plan of attack, and the gas that is to be used. They will be using an advanced Summoning Jutsu to scatter this weapon all over the Village of Cloud, in points where civilian casualties will be devastating. The points where the gas will appear are almost impossible to locate, and so far we have only been able to locate 2 out of a possible 127 in the past twelve hours. They are seals no bigger than a Shuiken, placed on items, the ground, walls, ceilings, trees, and one was even found on a person. Not only that, but these seals are invisible to the naked eye. The properties of this Jutsu’s execution are causing it to absorb the colors surrounding it, camoflawshing it perfectly. We have sensor nin searching for these seals as we speak, but it will inevitably not be enough. The sheer number of them will cause more than half to be used efficiently, witch will kill hundreds of innocent people.

We have no choice. As our Police force and other ninja search Kumo for these seals, you must intercept AWWNB and prevent them from sending out even one of these gas weapons.

Pandora sent us all of the technical data regarding the gas. It originally was a weapon created from none other than Jironimo Takahata, a brilliant young man in the service of Konoha, and more so, to the Falcon clan. It came originally in a pellet form, using water to activate the sulfur based toxic elements of it. Though it was very simplistic in its original design, it was in effect a drastic innovation in gas based warfare. It used natural earthly element that created natural toxic properties. This means two things. It’s extremely easy and cheap to make, and it also takes much less time for it to be washed clear from an area.

AWWNB has added onto the invention, using canisters in aluminum frames to expel the gas once a significant amount of force has primed it. This unfortunately fits perfectly into their plans. The sheer force of it being summoned to Kumo will set of the gas immediately, and simultaneously all over the city.

We have good news though, only in the fact that a neutralizing agent exists to stop the gas’s spread. You will be given a small amount of this agent for safety reasons.

But where would they deploy the weapon?

Pandora was able to give us this answer as well.

50 Miles to the west of Kumo is an old abandoned temple. This temple has been deteriorating for years, but it is also 12 miles away from the main roads, making it a perfect hide out. Spacious, with a main temple building and two smaller buildings on its flanks, it stands now as one of Kumo’s oldest buildings.

They will be using the main building to summon these weapons into Kumo. The massive seal will look much like a spiders web, where at least 127 gas canisters will be set to summon at any time.

Our only problem is that if we send out a large force to take down this temple, they will inevitably send out the gas prematurely. We therefore will be sending you, and only you to take down this massive terrorist attack.

Your objectives are as follows.

Leave Kumo as fast as possible, and make your way to the Temple 50 miles to the west. Avoid any and all detection before you have disabled the terrorists ability to summon the gas canisters into Kumo. Once disarmed, neutralize any and all other threats in the area. Above all, prevent this attack on Kumo, and return home alive.

I don’t have to tell you what’s at stake here.

Remember, move quickly, the Radio transmission is starting to make the Population panic, and we cannot keep this plot a secret for much longer.

Your code name for this mission will be Rouge, Sarin, and Wiltshire.

Rouge we all wish your team the best of luck.

Sarin, a chemical killer. Sarin, a faceless protector of a village he loved. The figure was shrouded in clothing. To be precise, there was not a single shred of skin available to the cool evening. Night fall would be upon them soon, and as tonight was the new moon, it would be an especially dark one. His feet were in the boots of his BST-Suit, the rest of his normal clothing, the hooded jacket and pants covering the remainder of the armored suit. His hood was up, shrouding the mask. He'd finally finished the ridiculous design. Whereas most Anbu of his day used gaudy red lines and patterns, Riku had gone far more subtly. The mask was already black, and starting with the respirator, dark green lines, designed to curl and swirl like vines, crawled up the mask, curling around the ear piece and eye slots only on the right side. As it moved to the left, the vines seemed to break apart, fading instead into miniscule specks, representative of the Kikaichuu beatles inside his body. It didn't matter much, considering how dark everything was in the fading daylight. The deep forest green faded into the black of the mask, leaving little to be noticed unless someone was actually looking for it. Woven into the vines on the right, a careful observer would notice the symbol of Kumogakure and the BOLT Ops. The black suit was not as customized, considering few aside from himself ever saw it. The slight cuts in the material gave the Kikaichuu a vent to access the air and aid in combat. In the same dark green is the BOLT symbol emblazoned on the left pectoral plate.

He was standing in BOLT HQ, having just finished his briefing. Now, where was his partner? He wasn't sure who he was running with, but the briefing had informed him of a team. Looking down, Sarin checked his equipment, the Black Eggs and Chain were stored securely, and his own weaponry, kunai, shuriken, bomb tags and wire, were all available at a moment's notice. He was prepared.

Sarin turned, walking towards the door, the yellow-orange filter over his eyes giving him an emotionless gaze. 50 miles. Poisonous gas. Hundreds of lives resting on his shoulders. He would do what it took, despite his hatred for it. His compatriot would follow, feeling the same duty as himself, but how would they get there. 50 miles was a long trek, and time was crucial...

"Sarin reporting in, are we ready to move?" His voice inside the mask was thankfully unmodified before it went to the receptor and traveled across the chakra network to any others wielding their masks. Thus, he was allowed to communicate in his own voice, at least for now.

Wiltshire... some random codename; she had no clue whatsoever about what it actually was, or if it had just been made up on the spot. The woman was dressed only in a standard-issue BST-Suit, kunai slipped into several of the loops made for carrying weapons, while a few pouches were on other areas of the suit, holding shuriken, explosive notes, and, last but not least: a vacuum-sealed medical kit. A BTM hid her face from view, revealing only the silky, sapphire, shoulder-length hair....

BOLT HQ, briefing complete. She was working with a team, which was good, especially considering she wasn't even a fully-fledged Op yet. Or even a fully-fledged mednin. And this was her first BOLT Operation since Sea Lion... so it was her second one overall.

It was good to hear a familiar voice on the com-link.

"Sarin reporting in, are we ready to move?"

Wiltshire came up beside Riku-san, giving him a pat on the shoulder in greeting. "Wiltshire here. I'm ready to go."

'A World With No Borders...they just don't know when to quit, do they. Moving from hostage situations into full blown chemical terrorism... too convenient.'

The third member who had been assigned to carry out Operation Atropine reviewed the information of the briefing, mentally running through the details with a proverbial fine-toothed comb. Not too long ago A World With No Borders had struck in Kumogakure, aiming to kidnap one "Minmoto Yakahama" from his own fiftieth birthday party. As things quickly spiraled out of control, it had turned into a hostage situation. They had of course been stopped with ruthless efficiency, as expected of the BOLT Ops, but not before a single hostage had been executed. At the time, AWWNB had seemed... untrained, no better than a group of genin who fancied themselves terrorists; aside from their leader of course. The memory of that man still spent a chill down the Operative's spine.

AWWNB had moved so quickly from crude hostage situations to full blown chemical warfare, actually holding a fair chance of ending Kumogakure entirely, if BOLT didn't act in time. It was a little... suspicious. Suspicious that they would so quickly be able to escalate their operations. Suspicious that yet again the mysterious Pandora had a hand in things. Operations Faris and Flying Torch had only succeeded because of Pandora's information, but... it still seemed a little too convenient.

Sighing softly beneath his mask, Rouge tugged a long black coat on over his BST-Suit, before reaching up towards his BTM and keying open the team's com channel.

"Rouge, ready to begin."

The first voice to respond sent a undiscernable thrill through his chest. It was comforting, at least in some small fashion, to know that there was one accompanying him that he had worked with before. Granted, his relationship with Omoi was still young, their little team not having done much, and the only BOLT related business was that day they had both joined. It was surprising really, that he hadn't noticed it was her before, considering the hair spilling out from her head.

Pausing for a moment, Riku wondered exactly how she could perform a Dragon shift in that costume. It was her most advantageous fighting form, though it was larger and more conspicuous. Perhaps she was going to remain in human form? That would be interesting indeed.

The other voice was foreign to him, even without any mechanical alteration from the mask. Had they never met, or had this one simply slipped through the grasp of Riku's young mind? Either way, the end result was the same, there was no recognition of the jacketed figure. And even that truly didn't matter, as the job would remain the same despite whatever else was happening. There were lives on the line, hundreds of them to be precise, and the young genin could already feel the pressure weighing on his chest. Did he truly have the willingness to do what it would take to save the village? There was little doubt that some tonight would die, could he risk that on his conscious? Did he dare not take a life, even if it led to an even higher death count? No, of course he would take one life to save hundreds.

Shaking the thoughts from his head, gently so as to not get too much excess attention from his teammates, Riku gently plucked the hand from his shoulder, giving a soft squeeze once in order to convey the message that he understood it was her. Fifty miles. It was a long way to run. But thankfully, that time in the mountains with Sebokik had taught Riku the value of training his physical body, and not just his mind. Sure, their training had been short, but it had been rigorous.

The young body took off like an arrow from a bullet, awkwardly aware that he had been the first to move. But if no one made the first step, they would never get there. They could talk and plan on the way. Besides, to keep his stamina, his already below average pace would need to be even greater restricted.

"Rouge, ready to begin."

Wiltshire grinned; another familiar voice. "Oi, Rouge, let's see if I can't keep you out of the Hospital this time, ne?" A little tease, lightening the mood a little. Something she'd picked up from an old friend she and 'Rouge' shared....

Her hand was gently squeezed as it was lifted from Sarin's shoulder, and she smiled at the acknowledgement.

And then Sarin took off.

It was a mere instant later that Omoi followed, quickly catching up....

"Keep yourself out of trouble, and I'll keep myself out of the hospital. Sound fair?"

Otoha grinned slightly under his mask; hearing a familiar voice was a welcome relief. They had fought together in the past without any major failures, so... hopefully today would go just as well. As his teammates jumped into action, he held back, reaching under his coat to draw out a small metal case. Flipping it open with one hand, the chuunin selected something within, and with a slight flash, unsealed the weapon he had chosen. A moment later, with the case strapped to his back once more, and a nodachi slung over his coat, Rouge started off after his teammates, tapping into his kekkei genkai's boosting abilities in order to cover the lost ground, and catch up to the team.

Riku furrowed his brow in slight levels of confusion. So the other two knew each other already. That was good. Riku listened idly to their conversation, absorbing the jovial terms and friendly voices. Unfortunately, the majority of it was lost on him. He was too concerned with the job at hand. There were lives on his shoulders, a responsibility he couldn't simply shove out of the way for a little bit of joking with the others. Concerned that his pace might be holding the group back, Riku urged himself forward, pushing his legs farther than was comfortable, but for the sake of speed, he would bear the discomfort.

"Assault plan. Should we clear the buildings one at a time, or try and take out all three simultaneously and leave zero chance of someone escaping?" It was a question, for Riku didn't know the appropriate tactic. Each had an advantage, each a disadvantage. To encircle and strike at the same time would be difficult with only three Operatives, but to move their entire force through each building one at a time meant that those in the other buildings could escape while they were inside. Perhaps a stealth entry, taking out one at a time until the whole place was cleared. That seemed the best option to Riku, but he was not the one leading the mission.

Switching from that train of thought while he was awaiting a response, Riku scanned the mental image of the map of the territory. They were making good time, hopefully it was good enough to save Kumo.

An assault plan?

....

No idea.

Wiltshire began running the mission's details through her mind once again.

1. If the alarm was raised, the enemy might send off the payload early, resulting in a mission failure and many deaths.

2. The group's numbers were unknown.

3. Their orders were to disable the movement of the payload first, then take out the enemy.

4. Seals were generally rendered useless if their lines were broken. A few careful cuts or slashes here and there would be perfect to disable it.

5. Probably.

6. If the first method failed, she with her Souton or Sarin with his Doton would be able to destroy the seal fairly quickly.

At their disposal, the three BOLT had:
-Souton, Doton, Raiton, and Fuuton
-Kikaichuu, perfect for scouting and for stopping enemy chakra build-up, courtesy of Sarin
-a Weapons expert, in other words, Rouge
-the ability to use Souton for phasing through solid objects and refined enough to be used to quickly disable enemies in combat, courtesy of Wiltshire
-and... some other things she probably either couldn't think of or didn't know of at the moment.

"Before we worry about the assault plan, we need to worry about how we're going to stop the summoning. Sarin, your little friends would be good for scouting the area first--" she was careful to avoid directly saying 'Kikaichuu' as an extra precaution against anyone possibly listening in, "--and locating the seal, as well as getting a headcount on the enemy. Then I could travel covertly to the seal, with your directions, and do what I can to break it without breaking open the tanks. Rouge, if we go through with this, you wouldn't make your appearance 'till we started the fight." She smiled slightly behind her mask. "As for the assault plan, I'll go with whatever you two agree on. I'm not used to taking on a force like this yet."

"Assault plan. Should we clear the buildings one at a time, or try and take out all three simultaneously and leave zero chance of someone escaping?"

If they took each building one at a time, they would run the risk of coming up against an unknown security or alert system. While they would be able to take down a single building without too much trouble, in theory, even the slightest of mistakes or oversights could warn the other buildings, and ultimately, result in Kumo's demise.

"Before we worry about the assault plan, we need to worry about how we're going to stop the summoning. Sarin, your little friends would be good for scouting the area first--"

Little friends?

Rouge had no idea who was behind the codename of "Sarin", or what these "little friends" that Omoi had mentioned were, but given her discretion to avoid naming them... perhaps they were related to one of Kumogakure's clans? He didn't ponder it for too long, however; the answers would reveal themselves with due time. Rather than wondering what his allies were capable of, he would instead have to focus on the unknown natures of their enemies.

"--and locating the seal, as well as getting a headcount on the enemy. Then I could travel covertly to the seal, with your directions, and do what I can to break it without breaking open the tanks. Rouge, if we go through with this, you wouldn't make your appearance 'till we started the fight."

"I'm not opposed to that plan... I could send out a swarm of Static Clones to raid the place and report back, providing there's enough metal within the structure to allow them to travel around unseen, but there's the slight issue of their lack of a physical form making them... well, mutes. I could sustain eighty clones for about ten minutes, and cover the entire area in easily a fourth of that time, but... the best they would be able to do is come back and then lead us along a safe path."

"As for the assault plan, I'll go with whatever you two agree on. I'm not used to taking on a force like this yet."

"Alternatively, we could go with what she suggested and have you two clear the seals without drawing any attention, giving me time to... work a little "magic" from back here. Calling down a storm for cover isn't too bad... and once you've got the seals taken care of, well... unless those buildings are made of something harder than diamond, they'll be dust in under a minute."

And that was why he trusted Omoi. She knew both other members' skills as well as her own, giving her the greatest insight into any possible strategy. Running the two viable solutions through his skull, Riku absent mindedly leapt over a small branch that had fallen across his path, noting the grubs eating into the wood. Natural damage, not some enemy waiting for an ambush. That was good, they really didn't have the time to spare for a waste of time like that. A cricket chirped off into the night, while lightning bugs began their flickering dance for the night.

"I'll take the scouting. The... little friends can get us a specific number on enemies, and their locations, but as for the location of the seal, unless it's chakra active already, they won't be able to seek it out effectively. Perhaps one of the... Static Clones? could find that, while I tag our enemies?"

Just the talk about them was enough to get the Kikaichuu scurrying under his skin, causing the occasional imperceptable wince from within the mask. They liked biting him when they got excited, which was not a pleasant experience, no matter how often one experienced it. Omoi must have had a reason for not mentioning the Kikaichuu by name, even over a secure communication channel. Perhaps she was worried about someone actually within earshot? Or maybe she didn't trust this Rouge as much as was let on?

Either way, silently Sarin dropped back, letting a small number of the creatures to come crawling out and noiselessly wing themselves into the air. A small number, searching for significant sources of chakra in the area, perhaps a human, spying on them? It could do no harm really, and worked as an effective deterrent against getting caught unawares. It didn't help on the off chance that Rouge was a threat however, but that was highly unlikely, given his leader status with this mission. Once they got a bit closer, he would release more of the tiny insects to go do their job, but for now, they could rest within his shell for a while longer.

Wiltshire nodded. "The Static Clones finding the seal should work well. Even if they end up having to travel back through whatever metal there is along the way when they're leading us, I can just phase us right through. And decimating the place in under a minute sounds fun, so long as me and Sarin aren't there when it happens." A soft chuckle escaped her lips. A low buzzing in her sensitive ears let her knew that the first of Riku-san's Kikaichu had been released; hopefully Otoha-kun would take notice and figure out the rest of the information on his own. After the mission was over, they'd all be able to talk a lot more freely....

She trusted both of them; they'd both had her back before, Riku-san as a former teammate and Otoha-kun as one who'd gone through the Captain's training with her and Kaitou-kun, as well as having gone on Operation Sea Lion with her.

So it bugged her a bit that she couldn't say everything she wanted to for fear of any unfriendly listeners.

The three continued on through the forest, Wiltshire now waiting on Rouge's input into their discussion.

"That would work, yeah... I'll have to wait until we're a bit closer to release them so we don't run the risk of anyone being spotted, but if the seal is visible from... well, from any point within, we'll be able to find it easily enough. Sarin's... friends can report on the enemies, while my clones can find the seal. You and your phasing nature can disable the seal, and then we can just bomb them from a distance. With our BTMs, we should be immune to the immediate effects of the gas, so... anything that survives both the buildings being destroyed, and the likely release of the toxins in the area, we can simply walk in and capture. The situation is diffused, and Kumo gets a few more members to interrogate."

Frowning slightly under his mask, Rouge nodded towards Sarin.

"Your... friends, whatever. They don't have any issues with getting around in a heavy rain, do they?"

Riku's lips twisted downward as he took in Rouge's words. Was this guy seriously debating setting off the gas? Sure, these folks were trying to kill everyone in Kumo, but, was it necessary to take their lives to save the others? "Give me thirty minutes head start." Riku was pretty sure that the Kikaichuu could fare pretty easily in the rain, but he wasn't up for taking the risks.

Surging back up to the front of the pack, Riku jumped into the top of a tree, the Kikaichuu flooding out in full effect now, swarming around him in a writhing cloud of black insects. So much for secrecy, Riku would take this oppurtunity to perform the job. The females peeled off from the group, their instructions clear. They'd each 'claim' a host, and then using their pheremones, Riku would have an accurate fix on the locations of all the guards in relation to himself. They made a beeline for the compound, though in a pattern and at varying speeds, so it might seem randomly distributed, rather than a single mass of insects floating into the compound. Once their, they would separate, swirling around and eventually settling on various guards throughout the comound.

"We'll still need to be careful to not be snuck up on, there's always the chance my... friends will be spotted." He spoke as he dropped out of the tree, the bugs trailing behind him and crawling back down, hiding beneath his skin once again.

Releasing the toxic gas? Ehhhh....

"Better make sure that rain gets particularly heavy if the gas is released, I don't like the idea of that stuff spreading too far. The briefing said it was easily washed from the area it was released in, after all...."

"Give me thirty minutes head start."

Thirty minutes? An eternity on a mission like this. Who knew if the gases would be released within that time frame? Wiltshire frowned silently behind her BTM, suppressing her worries. Proper scouting would help prevent any hitches in their plan.

Sapphire eyes watched as Sarin leapt ahead, releasing his Kikaichuu in a cloud and sending them ahead to their destination.

"We'll still need to be careful to not be snuck up on, there's always the chance my... friends will be spotted."

Wiltshire nodded. Hopefully her sense of hearing would prevent anyone from sneaking up on them; with the BTM on, she couldn't smell a thing outside of the airtight mask.
